It’s a good point, like if we look at swimming levels for kids, the first few rungs are just “get comfortable and move around in the water”
well my experiement, new way of goal setting, yesterday and today has not gone as well as expected but i must give it time i guess, iam only reaching my goal of over 50 moves with only losing less than 6 stones hard to complete about 1 in five games do i accomplished my goal need to raise that to 2/3 out of five if i can over next day
Did you look at the comments I made after our game?
no
no i stopped playing go for a couple days and cancelled all games i needed to realign myself about this game thank-you fo you comments they were helpful during the game, after i did not read what you said as i cancelled the game but again thanks for you input iam using a differnet method to play this game now and finding it more relaxing to play
Your new method is fixated on how many of your stones are captured.
Do you know why a stone is removed from the board during the game? What specifically has to happen for a stone to be captured?
iam using this method as it will keep playing this game and interested ,my lower goals are reachable as winning at this game is not ,since i really after trying quite hard understand any of the myriad of rules to this game that keep me from moving forward so rather than get frustred and quit and just go back to playing chess where things make snese to me and poker where luck is the major compoenet - iam trying this way of moving forward very slowly mind you but today and last night i seemd to make a little progress reaching my goals about 50 % of the time so maybe by tomotow can move my goal up to 60 moves and not losing 6 stones ina 9x9 game the other games 13x13 iam trying to get to 100 moves and 12 stones not lost - so these are my goals coming up i will theis weekend see how they go
As stated before, the key to understand in a 9x9 game is:
- use Chinese way of counting
- try to fill all the board, but leave two empty holes
- the player with more stones on the board, wins the game
You may or may not want to apply these suggestions, but please give a feedback you have at least read them.
yes i a have read your posta, really don’t see and don’t understand why the chinese way of counting should be better than the japanese type, its a different game isn’t it ? iam playing more 9x9 games as explained above, my 13x13 28 day games are going better than i thought on some of them, mind you, some of them might be setting up for traps we will have to see but i do enjoy those more now will keep pluging thanks your input even if spmetimes its a little negative
not really iam not counting the stones i capture what iam trying to do is be defensive and not lose 6 stones in a 9x9 game and 12 stones in a 13x13 game, trying to as i have said before to to get to 50 plus moves and 100plus moves respectively. but thanks for the comments
@dokbohm, I’d be interested in your answer to this question that was asked before:
Also: Do you understand the concept of “liberties”?
In case someone missed it:
(Note: I moved your post to a new topic and closed the “About” post as that was simply for explaining the category Teaching > Teaching games.)
I’m not trying to be rude, but unfortunately I suspect that you cannot improve.
You have been posting here for months yet you seem unable to take on much of any advice. Teaching games, discussions on the forums, other suggested off-site material, none of it has helped. I think this is because:
a) this is an elaborate troll, or
b) whatever issues you are personally dealing with pose an insurmountable hurdle to progress.
If it is the latter, then I think the only advice you need is this: you should ask yourself “do I enjoy playing the game with the skills I have now”? If the answer is yes, keep playing and have fun. If no, then it is probably best to give up the game and find some other meaningful activity that brings you joy.
This might sound harsh, but I think it’s better to accept the reality than struggling to reach a goal that is out of reach.
For the rest of us, whether a) or b), I’m not sure what reason there could be for us to continue offering help. Everything dokbohm is struggling with has already been addressed many times. Any suggested advice that we may want to post could instead be replaced with a link to a post that has already said it.
I looked at a couple of dokbohm’s recent games, and this is still very beginner level, but somehow looks less random, so perhaps there is some (very slow) progress. Anyway giving him advice is useless at this stage, he won’t listen and wants to do it his way, play a variant of capture go (although he seems to make territory as well).
what advice i get is criticism in the way i play and not a correct way to play moves or strategies that work for a beginner, just comments that i don’t understand this or you understand that, if you look at my games, i don’t randomly slap them down as some of you constantly say iam playing a defense type game that a lot of times i screw up on granted but iam trying and i do wok puzzles everyday on other sites so to say i don’t listen is totally wrong i just don’t get or understnd a lot of the rules on why this happened or that even after being told sometime i come across a pentolite child which is true but at my age old dogs are hard to learn new trick etc etc etc so please less harsh critizism and more exact moves or maybe like some dear fellows have done showing me what i did wrong in one od my actual games or better yet maybe take the time and play a game against me 29 day game is easy to fit into your busy time work loads play a move a day for me explain why you did this or that or why i was wrong to do this or that on that lasy move i will explain why i did that move and then you can correct me thats good crit izism not just saying all the time you don’t understnd this or that and your a waste of time helping – so enough rant here i wish i could control myself when i speak, but time is fleeting and there is less than there was before i just posted
going to try the Chinese format and see what it does for me but when i try to get a game the lowest it will go is a one-day game time wise, is there any way to just get a 10 min game 9x9x Chinese
People have asked you the same questions several times, and you never answered. And people have given you advice that’s simple to understand for a beginner, like “think longer before you play” or “dont miss a single atari”, and you didn’t follow the advice. Hence the impression that you are not listening. But it seems you are learning nonetheless, since your moves are starting to make more sense.
I saw tons of advice that (usually) work for a beginner. I believe the problem doesn’t lie in the quality of the advice.
My main criticism is that you typically play many moves per game without thinking at all with “thinking” times way below one second.
How much sense would it make to provide guidance to a student driver who just can’t get rid of their habit of steering their car sharply to the left every few kilometers - right into the oncoming traffic.
You can’t drive a car if you regularly steer it into the oncoming traffic.
You can’t play Go if you regularly throw stones on the board without thinking.
then if you think i can not listen and I’m pig headed, as you imply, then have a game with me and give me one on one advice on each move showing the correct way to play –is that to hard for you to understand what iam asking for or do you just sit back and just critize me on how i don’t play right a simple even 7 day 13 x 13 game, would work showing me as we play the correct way of thinking for say the first opening 20 moves or so even that would be helpful
You made a Discord account and joined the teaching server. Did you ever figure out how to use it?
I’ll renew my previous offer, which you declined. I’ll play a live teaching game with you, while using voice chat. You can message me directly if you want to take advantage of this.
