looking for sage advice teaching in a game how to play

no not really when i found out it a camera part of the program - i like to do things in private also i like to do things here on this site it really mind is a confusing program to setup and work also but thats just a smal l point - i have been scammed using a program like this before having someone seeing into my world and or using my own words as i speak which i have difficultly doing now, and then use against me so i stay away from those programs that use that tech sorry but its rule i have to live by .

i would love to have you play a normal game here and use the text part to instruct me on what iam doing wrong any type of game from ten mintues to 28 days would be fine

It’s possible to use a camera with Discord, but we don’t need to activate the camera, go players generally use Discord for voice channel.

thats good information for some, unfortunately, I’m in a situation where i have to be silent while i play, though i guess i could just use earphones to hear and just text back my replies i will have to consider that if i can get that progam to work signing in has been a problem for me last time will try again

thanks for the input and information

One odd thing I noticed in the chat in some of your recent games: you say that you have never won a game and are down to about 100 kyu. Neither of those is correct, as you touched 48 kyu on 2025-10-30 and have won a number of games that you played to the end or where your opponent resigned when they had clearly lost. Admittedly you are currently back to 65, but perhaps your regime of resigning when you lose a certain number of stones is getting in your way. A better rule would be when the Estimate score function says you are behind by a quarter of the board size (20 for 9x9, 40 for 13x13, 90 for 19x19).

Please don’t encourage him to touch that button. He thinks the stone count is a percentage and it has only been a disaster previously.

you may be right about the disaster thing, and that button, back to the games, i won most of those games where the opponent gave up, i wasn’t ahead or anything, maybe they had a more important thing ot do but the wins i feel like they were gimmes so i don’t count them as far as my score that has been shown to me i have rarly been under 80k so i don’t know about those numbers you quoted maybe you are right i was wrong in estimating my score but it really doesn;t matter does it when you are over 25 k you are lumped into the bottom feeder section along with all the others who are really better than you are at 26k and such so i kind lost the interest in that

my current games are going about 70 % fails and 30 % reaching my goals so not so good i have gone back to 13x 13 from 9x9 games just because f the change maybe they will help harder to get games but maye i can reach my goal of 100 moves plus and under 12 lost stones with in the time frame set by the opponent – but thanks for the input i do aprreciate all that you say

Here are a couple of your wins that look totally clean:

You are improving, and I bet you’d do a lot better if you spent 10-20 seconds thinking about each move instead of just 1-2 seconds.

i think you give me too much credit for that - but thanks for pointing out those games to me i reviewed them and see were i went right and were i went wrong

@dokbohm here is a pair of questions to test and improve your understanding of territory.

How many points is your white territory at move 37 happyapple vs. dokbohm. And how many at move 47 happyapple vs. dokbohm?

on move 47 assum its 32 that i counted also it said to the right’s grahg that also

though it shows i was ahead at those times now when i was playing the game in real time i distinctly remember seeing i was ahead by less than that by a much greater margin, something like 10 or 12 so thats my problem seeing what the graph says in real time what the score, is really and not what the ai graph says and believing which one many games i think iam ahead or at least close to my opponent then when its all said and done find out iam 56 point behind or 27 points behind i have lost any ability to see what points i have in the moment of play even after doing many many puzzles, they never have scenarios that show real game situations like mine so i get confused as to what is a point and what it is not —- but thanks for the input it gave me a moment to ponder things before i play this morning how about a game where you can show me what’s what

You didn’t answer the two questions, you only answered the second one.

at move 37 i assume i am not 100 % sure but after looking at the side graph it also said 37 so i beleive iam right

Oh dear, this was a bad example because by a total coincidence 2 usually different numbers:

  1. number of white points in white territory,
  2. number of white points in white territory + number of black stones white captured - number of black points in black territory - number of white stones black captured + how many points komi white gets

happen to the same (ignoring the fraction).

I am asking about the first number. You should work this out by counting the number of empty intersections inside your territory. The W+37.3 on the AI graph is its attempt at working out the second number.

iam afraid iam totally mixed up on this one i really don’t understand even the question now let alone the answer i am sorry must be a an old man thing i guess or at least my old man thing of not understanding – but thanks anyways

Here is the question without any AI analysis side panel to confuse the matter. How many points of territory does white have?

A good way to answer this is to count them with numbers like this, I did the first few for you:

Keep going and do the whole big white territory.

well i think the answer is 37 not sure of those ones in the middle of the board

You are correct. The 3 locations in the middle of the board (D6, E6, F6) are neutral. You’ll see these referred to as “dame” (dah may). As long as the white and black stones next to these three locations remain alive (which in this example they will), neither side will score them.

This is specific to Japanese scoring, which is the default here and seems to be what you’ve mainly been playing. In Chinese scoring, both players would eventually put stones on the neutral points, because you get credit for stones on the board. Don’t worry about that too much though. It’s great that you got the “37” answer correct.

Now, the follow up to that question was “what is your score several turns later after you’ve been playing inside your own territory?” (move 47). If you go back and count for that example, you’ll see that the answer is less than “37”, because you’ve been taking away points from yourself.

would it be 40 ??? if not iam totally confused then on how this works
