Enlighten me, please(sincerely)
Work around to reconfigure my configure every new place I use it really sucks! Do you like this? I will never like it.
My suggestion was about the private chat concerns, not about settings configuration. Personally, I like having different settings on different devices, since I use different devices in different environments.
My profile picture is far beyond my username and pw. I would prefer that my settings are stored in the space that my full profile picture is stored â assuming that all the settings I want to store would occupy more than 5% of what that image occupies! Email, photo, name⌠what is already stored? They are NOT used to login!
Having different settings on different devices is good for some kinds of things, I agree. But I have no choice for ALL the settings I want!
Cookies are the most efficient way to store user settings locally. Storing them alongside a profile picture on the server would be inefficient and unnecessary. Cookies ensure quick access to preferences without overloading server storage or requiring additional database queries. Plus, they allow seamless customization across sessions while keeping login credentials separate.
Nicknames & Passwords - authentication data, used to verify identity. They require secure storage (e.g., hashed in databases), and they provide security
Settings - non-sensetive data that should be fast accesible
Cookies ARE designed for temporary, client-side storage of non-sensetive data, which IS the setings.
If you look at this as of just âTheme-blackâ, Iâm sorry, but that doesnt work that way. To provide quick aceesebility, + not to burden server, it SHOULD be in cookies. I would have âunderstoodâ you if I never had experience with any of this, but sincerely, I had.
To be clear, storing settings on the server would have virtually no impact. OGS does, in fact, store certain settings on the server.
The bigger question is user experience. Some settings make sense per-device, so localstorage/cookies are a good fit.
The OGS cockpit needs an upgrade: every setting gets a setting to decide if stored locally or on server!
While not liking the way the OP is arguing at all, I must say that I have missed in-game private communication (PMs work of course but are awkward to use) in non private games. But from my perspective there are bigger issues, thatâs why I have never brought it up.
Do they have a course like âEffective Communicationâ?
I absolutely agree with you and I meant that. He wanted to put all settings there, and I tried to explain, that if he wanted fast accessibility - THAT would be or impossible, or really bad for a server. But yeah, you are absolutely right about OGS storing some settings
That would be a different thread, anyhow, right?
This thread is a person stupidly asserting that Malkovitch is not working, without first finding out what it actually does, and what it is intended for, then stupidly asserting that weâre all stupid because it doesnât do what they thought ⌠as if this is going to motivate anyone to add the feature that they actually want ![]()
You ask, we deliver.
But those settings would be stored locally, for maximum flexibility, right? So each time you connect from a different device, your local settings settings would determine whether you switch to local settings on the new device or revert to server settings. But youâd also need a settings settings setting on the server to override this behaviour if itâs not what you want. Because you can never have too much flexibility.
