In public games, all player comments are also public?
Are you sure that, in public games, Malkovich comments are NOT public before the game finishes? I have a situation where is seems to be possible to see such comment, made by one of the players, without logging in OGS with the account of either player. Is this correct for you?
Malkovich comments are visible to the non-players during the game, but not to the players. If, however, a player cheats and visits the game in another account or as a guest, then they can see the comments. If you want to keep a truly secret note, then use the “Personal” setting.
OGS is so stupid!!! I do not want to keep the comment as a secret. But it should NEVER be public before my game finishes! This is the simplest way to make a SERIOUS BUG in the idea that the opponent cannot see the comments that anyone makes in their public games!
Games have their own URLs, and these will be NORMALLY AND NATURALLY ACCESSED by anyone who wants to play JUST that game, quickly! But before they login it, they will see (it is a SERIOUS BUG, as I said) everything that should be visible only to the opponent who wrote it, before the game finishes.
FORGET IT ALL ABOVE: are ALL the comments permanently hidden from every person, except the players, in PRIVATE games?
Normally and naturally, people’s browsers remember that they are logged in. Many of your problems with OGS seem to stem from this seemingly not being the case for you. (See also your complaint about settings not saving, you are clearly somehow deleting browser cookies between session, apparently by accident which is unfortunate for you)
Could you share more details about exactly which devices and browsers you access OGS from? We may be able to help you fix your settings so that OGS functions better for you.
The purpose of Malkovich comments is to entertain and give insight to an occasional audience, or to the opponent or opponents (in rengo) after the game.
Normally, people use MANY different browsers in MANY different places.
Normally, I know that people will not leave all their accounts opened in everything they use in every place they use.
Normally, and more and more commonly, as time passes, people are more worried about privacy, and they will not expect that they will only login to places just one time. This is something that could work 20, 30 or more years ago. Today, there are several systems that will never work like this. Many of them will work for a fairly small period only.
Normally, deleting cookies is not any kind of accident. But a site not keeping my settings in it, anyway, is a serious bug of it. Not a problem with my computer, my browser, or my browsing habits choices.
Most of my friends have more than 2 browsers in their phone. And they all know what is the private browing, and what this means for their privacy, their security, etc.
I am not talking only to me. I am talking about other peopleI know too, but they are not fond of discussing things, bugs, problems, settings, etc.
The Malkovich comment problem is not related to settings, is it, BH?
Since there are only 3 possible comment types, what I expected from Malkovich type it is pretty much different. And I really bet that what I want and imagined is not anything far from common in many other people and players.
If you are going to take steps to increase your privacy and security, good for you! You should be aware though that these steps almost always come at the cost of some usability.
Hi! You can just use private messages, as @BHydden says. You can do this during a rated or unrated game with your opponent. Just click on their username (or any player’s username) and press the “message” button in the little window that appears by your mouse.
Am I wrong? Strange… because… I study in one of the best universities in the country I live. And in this university, all my colleagues use different browsers, with clean settings, every time they will use a university computer for a second time. To make this different, you have to do a lot of efforts that are fair from being common… and are not getting more common either.
The country which I live have an estimated population of more than 212 million people today. Is this a small country?? The habits in big cities here are similar to habits in many big cities, in many other countries of the world. I am surprised you think differently than this.
And my usability complaints here are far from being anything meaningful. They are caused by simply stupid and arbitrary choices made in OGS. Not due my privacy choices.
If you think it is SAFER to leave your settings everywhere…
Firstly, university students are inherently different to “normal” people, and secondly, behaviour on a public access computer is usually different from how people use their private devices.
You should understand that if that’s the case for you, doesn’t means that that’s the case for others. I study at the best(top 3 at least) unis in my country and people don’t give a single dam about security. I know passwords of my roommates, furthermore they use the same one over and over again.
And I still don’t get your point - even those who use different browsers usually sort them the way they use 1(or maximum 2) browsers for some specific occasion, like this one. Honestly I just don’t know why you are so passive-aggressive about this
