Dear all! We just shipped a new feature to OGS !
Now, anyone can compare their Rating/Rank against the distribution histogram of all active/established players (Rating Deviation<200). This will be available in your Profile Card under the “Ratings Grid” , just press the “Compare to Global Distribution” !
The distribution data will be updated daily, but currently limited to “Overall” category only and constricted to 100-3100 practical range of Glicko2 system!
This was a looong awaited feature, similar to Lichess (Weekly Classical rating distribution • lichess.org )

We were so preoccupied with whether or not we could, we didn’t stop to think if we should

How many are “established” but didn’t have any ranked game for a year or several years?
all previous (unofficial) attempts have sdk in the middle
A year has passed since the last time. I don’t have time to test these, let’s hope everything is ok.
Traditional six-month player distribution by rank:
[Histogram 2022]
Percentiles at the bottom are based on green part as all weaker players + half of given rank.
Accurate percentiles (change since the last time)

(in currently ongoing live or blitz games on OGS, [4k] is usually around 7.7% among all currently playing not correspondence users)
it doesn’t necessarily mean that more [4k] users exist than other ranks. It may mean that [4k] play more often than others
games against bots are excluded
correspondence games are not included
like above but with standard board sizes:

I don’t think you’re that bad off. I’d only be really concerned if I was under 25%. Even then, when I started my rating was 700 (12%), and now it’s about 1150 (50%).

Recruit them for developer team?
It’s not that easy proper dev team only really has 2.5 people, but help like this is always welcome.

In short, “cumulative : x%” means that x% of the players are weaker.

ty! sadly, it was easier to empirically prove that go is tougher than chess than to improve my own go rating median rating on lichess is 1550 vs ~1150 on OGS

Nice feature! But I realised that I can only see the exact percentage at fixed points but not the point that corresponds to my user?
Maybe a nicer way to put it is (100-x)% of the players are stronger

Is that empirical proof related to this? vv
My rating on lichess is ~1100 vs ~2100 on OGS.
