the last generation will be one generation after Shin Jinseo era. after that, people don’t have deep interest in Go.
less sponsorship for tournament.
old player try so hard to keep Go popular.
a lot of world strongest players already retire or passed away at that time.
Your word in God‘s ear, as we say here in Germoney, meaning that we hope that “God” hears you and makes it so.
But seriously, I believe that the percentage of intelligent people is going down, and meanwhile I’m not even sure there will be people AT ALL 50 years from now. What with stupid people electing inhumane, anti-human leaders in a growing number of countries.
According to Wikipedia there are currently more than 20 million active Go players. That’s a lot of players. Do you need more?
The best player in the world is just 25 years old. That’s pretty young, don’t you think? Also the record for the youngest Go pro ever was just broken by a 9 year old boy.
Also wasn’t the recent World Go Immortals Championship the tournament with the highest price pool yet?
The quantity of players and popularity may vary through the ages, but I don’t see humanity losing interest in a game which is so primitive in its rules and materials and at the same time able to create so deep resonances in the minds.
Data is what you need to actually make a worthwhile statement regarding this matter. Maybe you should read up on things like predictive analytics.
Everything else is just guessing like the other people in this thread have done. I have yet to see any basis for the claim that the generation Alpha will be the last generation to have a deep interest in Go.
That statement also implies that generation Alpha as well as other generations have/had a deep interest in Go which in itself is also questionable.
Places where only humans play vs only humans have to be created, where option to play vs bot do not exist. It would inevitably become hard to find human opponent if such sites and places will not be created. Organisations without AI will have difficulties compared to organisations with AI, someone just should create them anyway. Because difficulties are real, few would dare to actually do it.
and its not enough for some users
there are discussions on forum about adding bots in automatch on default to reduce “wait time” and about forcing new users to play bots to get rank
if it will not be under control, it will go out of control
Might be true. But this is a different statement.
The other guy said that the interest in Go will be sharply declining after Gen Alpha.
Pretty sure such places will be created.
This will very much depend on the mindset of players in the future. I think these days many people value the human vs human aspect when playing. If people in the future are completely fine with playing against bots instead then few organizations would put in the effort. If people in 2070 would still prefer to play against other humans then solutions will be found. Verification will become stronger. Maybe you have to verify via eye scan or blood sample that you are a human at the start of the game.
Maybe some sort of web of trust thing could work? And keep track of who vouched for who, so when someone is discovered to have cheated or vouched for a bot, you can extropolate who they vouched for and propagate that information, suspending any accounts which are thereby reduced to 0 people vouching for them. Such suspended accounts would be free to seek other people to vouch for them with no deadline: they’re not in trouble, just lacking the prerequisite to play for the time being
That might work until about 2070 + 150 years or so. Then things get complicated.
Generation 3 synths are physically and mentally indistinguishable from ordinary humans, having lab-grown bodies of real human flesh, bones, and organs instead of plastic and metal. Even their DNA is close enough to human to seem ordinary.
