Non standard boards

Hi guys. I’ve been experimenting recently with non standard boards, namely 17x17 and 15x15. They are very fun to play! 15x15 feels like more strategic, more serious 13x13. 17x17 feels almost as strategic and serious as 19x19 but is faster to play. Problem is: they don’t have AI and star points.

I can imagine that adding AI to them may be difficult. But please, add start points to them. It’s hard to orient yourself on a board withouth start points.

Shameless plug for govariants.com, where non-standard grids have star points (example), and you can even try non-grid geometries

Also a link to the source, which is in turn borrowed from @yebellz’s BesoGo in case you or anyone else is looking to pull this into OGS.

How to install it?

You don’t. It’s a website - just navigate to it in your browser:

Mate, I don’t want to register on some weird pages.

rude lol

Lol, doesn’t want to register on weird pages, but seemed eager to install something on their computer.

You don’t even need to give your email to sign up.

The Oroton bots (25-30k) can play these sizes, and maybe other bots too, but due to a bug none of them show up in the ‘Play a computer’ menu.

They are under your level but maybe with a handicap it can be fun.

You can start a game with a direct challenge:

  1. Go to their profile and clicking their name
  2. Clicking the blue “challenge” button that appears

Not all that weird, in the sense that there is a thread in these forums discussing the development of that site. I just cannot remember the title, something along the lines of “development of a server for variants”.
