Is there no way to claim #1,000,000 for the official OGS account?

eg. by using a bot to take a hundred or so accounts around it?

Hmm they hid their identity pretty well, there was no trace at all on gotstats to identify who they are :face_with_monocle:

I admit I’ve have preferred if it had been left up to luck. Maybe the random person would have turned out a legend, maybe not; that would have been cool to watch.

The regular player who got it will now have to maintain two accounts, so probably will abandon one of them down the line, so I’m not sure that’s better…

Checking some surrounding user IDs

It looks like there may have been at least two distinct (and likely automated) efforts to grab user ID 1,000,000. The successful attempt used the pattern “ogscheckin53”, while another seemingly parallel (and failed) effort was creating accounts with the pattern “ogsgoaccount49”. The naming of the account “10e6-2” suggests that there may have been a third person attempting to grab the millionth user ID.

10e6-2 started as 10e6, but was renamed… so sad… I suspect that is one of the moderators, though, the automated accounts went to work around 125 before 1’000’000, and then got there in the span of 5 minutes.

But yay gratz for OGS for reaching 1 million registered users!

Thats a good milestone regardless who got the nice id or how many unique humans there were behind all those accounts. It’s been fun seeing the site grow into what it is today ^^

Uhm, I’ll have to disagree, this is actually very important.

“OMG using AI is the devil, kill it with fire, annul everything that upsets the Order, nuke the thing”
-Normal person hoping that maybe they will get the legendary 1000000 ID url in that new site they want to register, by waiting patiently a couple of days, registering at the last moment, hoping for the best :honest and sad:
-Mod using automated accounts to catch the number :sunglasses: :deal with it peasants:

I don’t think it’s much of a milestone where there’s a bunch of bots/scripts just generating dud accounts.

Nononono, the 10e6 account is a single attempt at almost perfectly the right timing (must’ve been within 6 seconds of the actual creation of #10e6). The bots aren’t an attempt by a mod (or it must be an incredibly sneaky mod) :slight_smile:
