Does this notation mean 1,000,000 or 10,000,000?

People typically write something like 1.234e5 to mean 123,400.

I guess the “e” in “10e6” was intended to mean something like “10^6”.

Had to look it up: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_notation#E_notation

By this article 10e6 = 10 x 10^6 = 10.000.000

I could have sworn 10 to the 6th power is 1 million, how far removed am I from school, it’s embarrassing.

attempted explanation

Yes 10 to the 6th power is 1 million, but the notation works like this: 1,006e3 = 1,006 x 10^3 = 1006
… and hence 10e6 = 10 x 10^6 = 10.000.000

If I had to guess why this is the case, then I would say to shorten the notation as much as possible. If the “e” only stands for “exponent” (in which case 10e6 would encode 10^6), then 1006 = 1,006 x 10e3
… which is a longer encoding than 1,006e3. But because we usually work with the decimal system, the base 10 is not explicitly written.

Which active player has the most prime factors in their ID?

conundrummahp :mexico: 870870, active from November to March, is a reasonable candidate.

His ID is 2 x 3 x 5 x 7 x 11 x 13 x 29.

billywoods :uk: (999) is still active.

He was the only active player with only 9s in his ID until Chinitsu grabbed 999999.

And player 1111111, sadly it’s an 1-game account though :crying_cat_face:

Neat numbers, but there are also jewels lie beneath a completely unassuming disguise (take it from a 27056 ).

The truly ancient integers are two harmless semiprimes: 13×23 and 2×1049. An honorable mention goes to 27×7, which has a nice but pedestrian pattern.

Then there’s also 12689, a very non-famous prime that held an event of great importance.

We recently passed player 1,200,000 but sadly it looks like a dead account.

Slowly approaching 1234567…
