Players who have 1000s of games

On Pandanet there are some players with 10k-100k games. Are these players likely to be bots. One has a low rating and doesn’t play well at all, to the point that thrashing him or her is no going to improve my game. 10k games would take 3000 hrs at 10 mins a game.

There are real humans who play this many games

This doesn’t quite check out :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not familiar with pandanet, but how long have they been a player? Over 1 month that would be suspicious, over 10-20 years not so much. What are the time controls they typically use?

Sometimes people reach a certain level and are content where they are, just because you may strive to improve your game does not mean all players will feel that way.

I’ve noticed that as well when I started playing on Pandanet and was curious too.It probably has something to do with the costs for playing on Pandanet, besides addiction to the game. Japanese players have to pay a monthly fee and, depending on the chosen subscribtion also a fee (ca. 300 yen / 1,80 EUR / 1,95 USD) for everey 5th+ game. There are also family and club accounts. Chances are that a lot of accounts are shared between either friends or members of a go-club. In case of the latter, there are probably different accounts for different levels which are used a lot by different people over time.

KGS and OGS had (have) that kind of players too with an incredible amount of games. Not so specific to IGS?

Yeah, some people play a lot. It’s not that surprising if you look at video games: for example, loads of people have played League of Legends for thousands of hours, but still have an average rank.
