Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread

Is her phone number a regular cell phone number or a special number?

My first guess, without more information, would be that she gets money when you text her, and then she handles the Audible subscription manually.

It’s not her phone number, it’s 500-500.

My question is, why is there a dedicated number that you can text to start an Audible subscription. And if it is a practice in other countries, for services that are not related to telecommunications.

Honestly it depends. I think it depends on whether there’s someone in front of me, I tend to look the other way to remember. And I close my eyes if I’m trying to remember a text or the position of something.

However, my memory is bad enough lately that I will have many examples soon to verify and get back to the poll.

I’m biased, because I read somewhere that people look up and to the left to remember, and down and to the right to think, so now you can’t trust my opinion as an uninfluenced observer

I look in front

This certainly doesn’t need its own thread. @anoek can an opt-out/hide button be added to this? :

It could be added to the pop-up after the “Learn more” so it could have a “Close” button and “Close and hide” button?

Well I still made one :sunglasses:

The profanity filter is ridiculous.

The censored word was “tirer”. The verb means “to get from” in that context.

I always disable profanity filters when there’s an option, and this is 50% of the reason. I remember my first encounter with this problem was when I was playing League of Legends and said “ass [enemy champion”, in which context “ass” was short for “assassinate”, and someone on my team couldn’t see the word because it was censored for them in their settings

Why is it censored? Isn’t a tirer just a tradesman who manufactures tires?

Other meanings of “tirer” are

  1. To pull
  2. To draw
  3. To shoot.

Maybe it’s censored because of the third meaning?

Does the 3rd meaning have an innuendo sense? If it just literally means shoot (a bow or a gun), I’m not sure why it would be censored

No, that’s a tiremeister, not to be confused with a tiresmith, who installs them

The 3rd meaning just means to shoot with a firearm.

But I was just thinking, it can also mean to f***, although the word is rarely used wit that meaning.

I guess that’s why. I don’t agree with it, but that’s how they work: be way overzealous

I always keep profanity filters off everywhere. They are heavily biased for English (and in stupid ways also) and if they are actually needed, I mean to a point I feel constant verbally attacked and offended, it’s probably a more widespread community problem.

And often, just a specific variety of English, such as US English

And we also get trolls saying things like “I should be able to say anything I want, because the profanity filter exists and should block anything offensive, so if what I type isn’t blocked it can’t be offensive”

I also turn them off everywhere. I prefer clarity, understanding, and context… even (maybe even especially) when being sworn at.

If the “inappropriate” usage is rare enough, you (or someone else) might consider submitting a PR to update the filter. Here are couple examples of this being done in the past:
