Rengo tournament

Would anyone be interested?

I was thinking 2x2 or 3x3 teams, fast correspondence (1d/ move?) and organizing the whole thing in this thread.

Maybe even 13x13, I’m not partial to it myself but at least it wouldn’t take forever.

I’ll join!

Not your style, I know, but I would prefer the smaller boards and handicap.

I have no idea how that would work, so if more people want hc we’ll need some input…

yes very good idea. I had such a dream. I’m also looking for ways to encourage people across the site to live rengo specifically. even a group was formed. feel free to join! rengo EVERYDAY!

When does this tournament start?

We need to find the people, form the teams and agree on the terms, it’s not like I’m commanding y’all to participate :-P.

Should we register individually and form teams randomly or register by teams?

I guess we are going for strict rengo, since it will be a tournament, so I think it would be better if everyone could bring in their team. This may leave people without team, though.

  • 2- person team (probably fate will decide this for us)
  • 3- person team

  • Round - robin setup (all teams play all other teams, done in a round)
  • Setup with rounds (one of those multi-round setups, need help)

  • 4 teams minimum
  • 6 teams minimum
  • 8 teams minimum (doubtful, but hopeful)

I suggest waiting until Thursday-ish for everyone to show up, vote etc.

I’m tempted to pop my Rengo cherry for this.

Doesn’t auto handicap just work with Rengo? The server formula for 13x13 handicaps is a bit weird but not as crazy as Rengo itself.

I just created a 9x9 auto handicap Rengo to see, please join

Thanks for these values, I would also like to suggest having at least 1 intermediate sdk in teams. For the games to run smoothly. Teams composed entirely of dan players will be too strong.

There is a balancing function available, but I don’t see how it would be applied in a tournament. Any ideas? I can’t imagine how handicaps would be assigned. Based on the strongest player? The weakest player? I think the weakest player on a team is more determinative than the strongest, because a weak move is a weak move, while a strong move may be useless if not followed up properly.

If 13x13 is chosen, I will use my account for that size: Conrad 13x13. If 9x9 is the choice, I will sit out.
