Requesting a slider for move numbers in reviews

I was having a lesson with BenKyo Baduk yesterday and we were going over a corner situation, and we discussed how we would like to remove the move numbers from the variation so it would be easier to view the position. Is it possible to create a slider that would do that? A slider could give the reviewer an option as to whether or not they wanted to see the move numbers.

Yeah, but that’s a GLOBAL setting and thus applies to ALL reviews … and we’d have to go to our settings every time we want to change it.

IMO it would be very practical if we could have …

  1. an option to change this directly in the review.
For example, when watching a relay, it can be VERY confusing to see ALL move numbers beginning from move 1. The right side bar would be perfect for this, right where we can also turn co-ordinates on and off.

  2. Also, IMHO it would be awesome if we could restrict move numbering to, say, the last 10 moves or something, ideally in the same place … a number field or slider (0ā€“āˆž) would be nice.

I feel like two slides for this one use case is perhaps over the top?

Is limiting the moves actually numbered really a practical thing? And I wonder in that case whether you want to remove ā€œthe first onesā€ not ā€œthe last onesā€?

For understanding of local fights I believe it certainly makes sense to limit it to, say, 10 or maybe 15 moves, in some cases it might even suffice to show just the last five move numbers. But showing ALL numbers is horribly distracting for me, and apparently I’m not alone with that.

I think an easy to understand interface could be a number entry field with ā€œshow ___ last move numbersā€ (with zero showing no numbers at all), with ALL move numbers shown if no number is entered.

Could also be done with a slider, no need for TWO sliders.

The ā€œsecond sliderā€ idea comes from the OP’s request for a slider that implies transparency control, I think?

I haven’t found a reference to a transparency control slider although that’s not a bad idea. This one could be placed in the global settings

Hmm - what slider did you think the OP was envisaging?

I just assumed transparency

I read OP’ request as switch that turns move numbers on off.
Supplemented by a request to make it a ā€œshow moves 0 to allā€ slider which would do what OP asks for if set to ā€œ0ā€ or ā€œallā€ and what trohde wants if set somewhere in between.

I guess the first is easier since there is a global setting that does it already.

I assumed how many moves, not transparency

This I interpret as a simple ON/OFF setting.

But I’d really want a little more fine-tuning, as described, i.e. to be able to restrict to the last n moves.

Plus (of course) not only for the reviewer but for everyone who looks at a review.

Plus this applying to anywhere in the move tree, i.e. when I move back to, say, move 50, seeing the last n moves up to move 50.

I think we’re in the wrong thread now . A mod should move this here . :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

More seriously: whip up a transparency slider: easy.

Finangle the move tree: hard.

This discussion reminds me of the question I asked about a month ago:
Demo board with move numbers

I need a :sob: reaction in addition to the

If a teacher has the variation move numbers slider turned off, and they are demonstrating for a group of students, does this mean that no one sees the move numbers? Or do the students also have to have the slider turned off?

I only skimmed the discussion but I just want to input as well,

I have found it frustrating not being able to toggle move numbers showing on/off, especially when I do group classes with many branches in the tree–every branch other than main branch becomes numbered, it’s a very detestable aesthetic for the stones especially with a lot of stones on the board, and can be weird when I’m putting positions together conveniently in move orders that don’t necessarily make sense.

Toggling move numbers on/off is a pretty common feature. I don’t personally care about the global setting, I’d prefer having it per game if I could only have one of those two features, especially with regard to how it affects class members; I should be able to control what they see.

This is somewhat off topic but I really wish there were a teaching mode!

I’d think turning it ON/OFF only applies to how it is shown to oneself, NOT to others.
