Nothing, except that OGS won’t allow it. That would be my preference.
Because that makes the correct play to take 2m on every move (except for the ones using multiple periods), and there are many moves in all stages of a go game which are pretty much forced from previous moves (hane block fix fix on the first line), which would take 8 minutes if both players are using all their time like they should. I don’t want to encourage this behavior; I want the correct play to also be one which does not use time in such weird ways as this.

It does allow the 30 seconds, the only thing it doesn’t allow is starting with 90 minutes main time. if instead, the main time was 1 hour, and the Fischer time is slightly lengthened (30 minutes spread over 150 moves gives 12 seconds), something like 1h+40s or 1h+45s Fischer time wouldn’t be so bad, right?
I find that the switch to byo-yomi changes things a lot more compared to using Fischer with less main time.
With 1h initial time you cannot bank time in the opening.
I agree that changing time controls is a bigger change than increasing the increment, but the thing which it leaves relatively invariant is the encouragement to both players to rely mostly on the main time to think in whichever parts of the game they wish, with the increment or byo-yomi being an extra bit to prevent timeouts and let the players finish out endgame without having to save time for it. And it is this property which I am placing a high value on.
Then this tournament is not for me.
I don’t want to be encouraged to spend my time strategically. I just want to play in a way where I have to pay minimal attention, if possible none at all, to the clock.

I’ll be available to play Saturday-Tuesday, seriously just pick a time and I’ll be available. No work for the next week at least, and little else scheduled. Even though I lost both matches I’ll be happy to play for any excuse, even if it’s just to tie a bow.

What time zone (relative to UTC) are you? I’m UTC -4 and am available all day Sunday. We could even play both sessions on the same day, maybe with a break for lunch between them, or I would be available in the evening on Monday, I think.
I’m UTC -5 so basically about the same as you. I can play starting around noon my time, so about 1pm for you? PM me on the server if I forget to check back here, but let’s plan for 1pm EDT and if you need to start later or break it up between Sunday and Monday either is fine.
See you over the goban soon!

Interesting. Unless I have messed up my math, GOkyle has won by a landslide, while S_Alexander beat chartreuse who beat me who beat S_Alexander. Since I didn’t really define a tie-break mechanism, I guess that’s a tie for second. ;D

Molossus 1, which is in a very similar format to this, will begin in a little under 2 weeks.
I hope to see some (or all?) of you there.
