Separate Analysis and Estimator / Analysis Off by Default / Display Analysis Status on Play Page

I apologize in advance for these absolutist statements, feel free to argue or ignore them, I however wish you all a great day ^^,

This is a three parter, but the topics are too closely related to warrant three separate topics imho..

  1. Score Estimator and Analysis have fundamentally different functions in a game, and should be separate entities when creating a game.
Personally I would like to have to create setting with score estimator enabled, and analysis disabled, but I guess it would be fun for everyone to be able to chose their own setting

  2. Playing out variations on the board is prohibited in standard competitive play, and in every other server, so it should be off by default
I don’t mind the analysis feature, but maybe better if it’s a chosen option instead

  3. Game Analysis setting should be clearly displayed on the Play Page.
It can be a bit difficult finding a game if you have to read the fine print in the game description, as the game will often disappear before you read, so the easiest becomes to accept the game, then check the fine print, and then cancel it, which creates a hassle for the one creating the game. Maybe even a checkmark whether to display analysis on games at all would be an alternative or additional solution.

Some contributions about this

As it stands, the estimator being used on a game in progress is not the AI variant, even when it is enabled..

What this suggestion relates to is to be able to disable Analysis, which is to put stones on the board to test out variations, while still having score estimator enabled. I.E. Detaching the two from being integrated into the same checkmark.. (secondly to clearly mark when Analysis (testing variations before playing a move) is enabled in a game, and thirdly to have Analysis Off, by default (most people don’t even realise that it’s on, when creating a game)

This is clearly written in the game information.

There have been quite some debates around dissociation, did you check? I am not telling your idea is wrong.

Are you suggesting something different from the current behavior? I use Automatch to play live games, and those have analysis disabled.

(1) and (3) come down to the balance of information overload and the features. I don’t have much opinion on them, other than that I avoid custom matches altogether.

yes in the extended game description it is available, but by the time you check that, the challenge might be gone..

Automatch I never tried, since afaik it is standard practice to make a custom game for ogs, and automatch takes much longer for pairing. I can agree that point three can be discussed under the umbrella of information overload, but point 1 is separation of estimator from analysis..

In all honesty I just find it odd that ogs decides it shall be impossible to create a match under the most common played setting, which is estimator on, analysis off..

Do we have some statistics?

The first thing would be to distinguish live and correspondence.

Then we may have different opinions so I dunno. And I’m bit lazy to go back read what was argued, let see others opinion.

the most common played setting on ogs, is probably analysis on, estimator on, since that’s the only one I came across when looking for a game, so I have to make my own challenge..

I mean, fox has the most games played in general, which has analysis off estimator on as default for most ranks.. only other place i play is igs, where default is analysis off, estimator off..

edit; ogs is the only place i know of that has analysis as an option at all, which can be useful for teaching games, and there is the argument since ogs is mostly a corr server, that would be the reason it has analysis on

edit edit i checked about 10 games on live, out of them 1 game had analysis disabled.. as an a propos; by the time I had clicked the challenge and read the details to check, it was already gone..

I just checked the first ten games on live, and it was exactly 50/50
