I’ll think about it
Round 14
Team | Red | Green | Blue |
---|---|---|---|
Black | @Shinuito: Q19 | @Jon_Ko: P6 | @mafidufa: G8 |
White | @Vsotvep: R18 | @benjito: N19 | @Maharani: P4 |
No collisions. After placing all stones …
… the black chain connected to O19 and the white chain connected to P19 both lack liberties and both contain no stone played this round. Hence both are removed simultaneously. New Position:

@Vsotvep fun! I guess that worked out about as well as I had hoped…
Looks pretty nice for white to me…
Thanks @benjito, seems like a good result indeed.
It could be an interesting and not-too-hard project to write a little program that automated these steps.
The program should handle all this:
- the program reads a file that only contains the simultaneous moves, one line per round (or alternatively, a file that contains the previous position on one line, and the last round on six lines);
- the program checks for captures;
- the program generates the new position as a vsotvep.github.io url;
- the program checks for superko repetitions like we discussed in the other game thread;
- the program generates text output which contains the entirety of the forum post for this round, including round number, the formatted 2x3 array with the moves, and sentences such as “Who and who collide at xy” and “The black chain connected to … lack liberties and is removed” and the one or two links to Vsotvep’s tool.
- I guess the program can’t make a screenshot by itself, although it can “embed” the board in the post since vsotvep.github.io has been whitelisted
That wouldn’t be too hard.
Yes, in fact Jon_Ko and benjito have started an ambitious project that aims to provide a place where various go variants (hopefully including this one, fingers crossed) can be played, with automated arbiter.
Maybe you are interested in contributing
In the meantime I’m happy to be the arbiter (and do the transition by hand) for this game.
Could’ve sworn I did… my bad.
Round 15
Team | Red | Green | Blue |
---|---|---|---|
Black | @Shinuito: R14 | @Jon_Ko: O3 | @mafidufa: C9 |
White | @Vsotvep: P12 | @benjito: O3 | @Maharani: O3 |
benjito, Jon_Ko and Maharani all collide at O3, creating our first second four-coloured stone! New Board Position:

Just as a refresher on capturing rules… if the blue chain at O3 had no liberties left, the stone would be captured, right?
Yes.
Metacommentary (is there a thread for this?): I wonder how the game would change if collisions had a “voting” aspect.
What I mean is that there were two greens on O3, and yet blue has equal stake now. What would happen if this had become a solely green stone instead?
Likewise 2 white v. 1 black => white
Basically, I’m saying I should own that intersection
Sounds like an interesting alternative for the collision handling rule, that we can try in future games
What if 5 players collide, resulting in a twice-red, twice-green, single-blue stone. What colour does the stone end up as? red-green, with no blue?
Another possible variant: as long as a stone is both black and white, it remains “undecided”. The multicoloured stone temporarily remains on the intersection, but players are still allowed to play on that intersection. If during a round, only white or only black plays on that intersection, then the stop finally stops being “undecided” and is locked in.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking.
This would be cool - then stones would trend toward fewer colors, which makes looking at the board a lot easier!
I think it would be cool if we had the current rules, except stones would not require to have black or white in them in order to stay alive… At the end, there are two counts: One for black and white, and one for the secondary colours.
Yeah, tbh the 2-D team grid is a little too much for me haha. Like where do my loyalties lie, white or green??
I don’t fully understand what exactly you are thinking of. The rules don’t require all stones to have black or white. The fact that all stones have black or white is a consequence of the rules and the fact that all players place stones that are black or white.
You are a member of Team White. You and your teammates will receive points only for white stones and territories.
I had hoped that this was clear (it’s in the rules section in the first post). I always feel bad when I find out in the middle of the game, that the rules were not clear. I guess the grid is confusing, with “team” in the upper-left corner. Sorry
