The all-in-one democratic game

The only barrier to entry is the amount of time and effort for someone to take on the running of this game (i.e. calling for next moves, setting up the polls, updating the demo board, etc).

I tried it for a few moves to keep things going while Groin was temporarily busy, but it’s not something I would feel comfortable taking on again in the long term.

Anybody else want to take a hand and raise this zombie game from its slumber?

I think you have misunderstood my comment to stone defender. My comment did not refer to the all-in-one game at all. It is also possible that I misunderstood what stone defender meant, which is why I added the conditional. Stone defender compared the delay in the all-in-one game to the horrible delay in “all correspondence rengo.” Since I wasn’t 100% sure that his use of the term “same problem” meant the delay, I added the conditional, which specified the delay in casual correspondence rengo games caused by escaping. In other words, the delays are attributable to two different causes. I never said anything about the delay in the all-in-one being caused by escaping. Why would I say such a nonsensical thing? Or did you think I should have said, “correspondence rengo games, if you are referring to the unconscionable delay of correspondence rengo games…”? Not only would the repetition of the phrase be hideous style, but “delay of games due to players escaping” can refer only to the previous mention of rengo since no escaping occurred in the all-in-one game.

Of course, none of this has anything to do with the substance of my comment, which dealt with the annoying problem of escaping in casual rengo correspondence games.

Well, since this is the all-in-one democratic game thread, I supposed you were also talking about the game, and I wanted to clarify that everyone is welcome to join the game and participate as long as they wish.

Yes, my post was off topic (not an uncommon event on OGS), because I thought it was important to correct stone defender’s apparent misstatement about rengo and to offer solutions.

Just to clarify that too, as long as there is at least one person to manage the polls and stuff, the entry barrier for participating is merely having an opinion about the game position.

I’d be willing to help, but I also want to suggest to adapt the procedure a little bit. The guidelines for when to create the poll and how long it should be open could use some tweaking in my opinion.

That would be greatly appreciated!

From previous experience, one of the things that made it difficult for whomever was organizing the voting at that time - was the constant meta-discussion regarding whether there were “too many options” or “too few options” - also the various tie-breakers that occurred when the vote was evenly split etc.

If memory serves, there was more than one situation where we experienced multiple rounds of voting just to decide one move, and this not only caused more work for the organizer, but felt like it slowed down the progress of both the game and the thread.

IF we were starting this up again, I think it would be useful for the organizer to set some limits and boundaries so that both the game and the thread could stay more focused. My 2 cents. Looking forward to it if and when this game comes back to life.

So those would be two points to figure out. I can see that people would like to vote for a move they think is best, so such moves should be included. Too many moves would make it more likely that there is no clear winner, so that’s when the tie-breakers come into play.

I think if we could come up with clear and practical rules for how to proceed throughout the game a dedicated organizer might not be absolutely necessary. Of course that would require enough people to work out such rules, which can be appreciated (or at least accepted) by other players.

But if anybody else is interested in working out such rules, those should probably be discussed in the how-to thread.

Dam dam dam here I am!

All those meta discussion would better be and continue in the thread created for it.
If one of the @moderators could kindly regroup them there (except the ping from @belabatsijolvan and my answer to it) that would be really great.
(See the link given by @Jon_Ko, thank you)

365 days ago Putin-Russia launched a full-scale invasion on Ukraine and there is no end in sight, because Russia isn’t willing to back down yet.

And for 365 days there hasn’t been a move played in this game. Somehow I wanted to mention this, maybe because it’s about democracy.
