come to think of it maybe black should just play C8 and then E8 and start with two stones that would be hard to kill and seal in without a fight.

If white play E7 first, black B10 would make black group alive no question, and all the white side territory is gone. It will be highly risky for white rely solely on influence with a not so solid “wall”.

Interesting. It could become a very wild fight:

I think C8 is gote. And if gote is inevitable, I’d rather take the simple path and the corner points with A16.

Seriously though, if black really start with A16, what would white’s best next move would be. My example of H4 L3 is just to show black has a huge weakness in its moyo. But white has more.

I don’t think white should play C18, but somewhere on the right side of the board. I am a more aggressive player, personally I would pick a contact move where black has to answer. I’d leaning toward R11, it’s a weak spot and some pretty interesting tesuji moves associated with it.

Continueing from black B10 and white responding at B9: I would consider cutting at C9, expecting this continuation

(or perhaps 7 at E12)

My gut feeling is that I wouldn’t mind playing with black here.

Ah because it wasn’t serious before? :clinking_glasses:

What a debate, I can’t hide my enthusiasm.

Coming back to the game, because you joined later, R11 has been a move suggested some time ago, I thought you may be interested if you didn’t know.

I searched because we have many posts already
So it’s Here

For a player who likes to fight, that is just too tempting… and I feel it’s time for white to play it now if black plays A16. Help build influence to further expand the white moyo and push down black, or force a fight.

I’m wondering what you have in mind with the R11 attachment. I’m seeing this:

Isn’t this fight extremely dangerous for white’s lower right group?

Anyway, maybe the R11 topic is not all that relevant for the current move for black, because nobody suggested a move on the right side for black.

Maybe we should decide first if black plays A16, C8 or B10 now? (I think those are all of the suggested candidates?)

After bR8 I don’t think white should cut with wQ9, but try to live with wS12. and keep pushing up to S13 and try to kill the upper right black group, depend on how black answer, it might be black try to seal in the lower right white, and white can cut through Q12 and get the whole top left, but it would leave the lower right white in ko, but would be a good opportunity to make some moves inside the lower side black moyo during the ko, and erase it, even if it meant losing the lower right ko. (losing lower right to ko, but erase bottom black, and get upper right corner, my feeling is that it would still be good for white)

Basically all suggestions are relevant at anytime, hopefully with some arguments for each of them. Ultimately only the poll results decide what was relevant.

And yes we have 3 candidates and I guess we can have the poll by now (discussion still always welcome)

I don’t quite see a ko to save the lower right. How does white get a ko?

I put a variation on the board… If black starts the ko, white can start with my original plan of wH4 wL3 etc. as ko threat to erase black’s lower side territory, if white get two moves and losing the ko, it most certainly will have a chance to get into the center, or completely kill off the left side black group.

Doesn’t black get to play T8 in sente somewhere in that sequence?

White can answer with P12 (I mistype it as P11 previously), if black don’t connect R14, white will be able to play R14. depend on what black played, it could be a semeai, a big chase to the center, or revert back to top rigth black death exchange for lower right white in ko.

P.S. come to think of it, if black insist in investing so much in killing four white stones, white might as well play on the outside and let black get the corner, and build a moyo in the center, by sacrificing those stones.

If white P11, black can cut at P12. What does white do then? If white extends at Q13, black connects at R14 and I don’t see how white gets sente to save the lower right. Can you show me?

I chose A16 over C8 but the choice was hard. C8 is somewhere ideally placed so really attractive, and fitting my style of play, but it leads to unknown lands i’m not sure to change it in a successful move.
A16 I feel much safer and it’s big.
