On e3, wouldn’t white play f3 - hane at the head of three stones?
That’s also joseki.
Y’all are a bunch of boring go players!
No interesting four corner stones, no diagonal fuseki, no tengen, no immediate retaliation after being invaded, and now the most mediocre response to the 3-3 invasion…
So what’s your suggestion?
F3 of course
That might be a good idea.
It urges white to respond, even though he would prefer to take sente.
But if white does just tenuki, do you want to continue on the lower side as black? I wouldn’t.
I also voted for F3, but not for strategic reasons but because i would like to try it ^^
I guess if white plays elsewhere after F3, the next move for black on the lower-left is probably G2 or maybe B3 or F4 …? Playing elsewhere could be good as well.
This F3 is new to me. If some more variations could be develop on our demo, I may chose it too.
I actually just want the Sente, to go back to punish white for being so boring.
I added some variations that seem critical to me, but I need to admit that I don’t know this at all.
There are a lot of variations. Many are in the joseki dictionary and waltheri has about 300 pro games with F3. It’s more commonly played than E3, apparently, yet I’ve never seen it myself yet.
Nice you convinced me for a try.
You have officially been declared not boring! Congratulations
My goal with F2 is to actually to let Black grab sente - here’s my thinking:
If Black settles that lower left group with F2, then White can either
- settle the 3 lower left stones with something like D8/D9
- create a large extension somewhere up the left side (D10? D11?)
- leave those stones unsettled and approach another corner
However, if White chooses the P17 or the R4 approach, then Black doesn’t have to respond right away. Black can then steal sente to disrupt White’s large extension on the left, or can enclose one of the other 2 corners.
Basically, I don’t think the lower left is a good place to START a fight, but it can be settled quickly to start another fight elsewhere.
I chose e3. I guess that puts me somewhere between boring and not boring.
My reasoning is this: With f3, White can play f4 and get a bigger wall facing White’s own stone at d17 and still have sente. With e3, White doesn’t get a bigger wall, and Black has a local follow up after f3 f2 (at either g3 or f4). White should feel a bit uneasy about this.
Black F2 wins
Boring move or not, we reached a high participation. At least we are completely in today’s go fashion.
Time for suggestions, everyone welcome!
k10 is my suggestion
Is it necessary to respond locally? If not… hmmm…
I suggest a high approach at P16 to fit with our influence from the lower left.
Let’s approach the top corner
P16? P17?
Why not approaching the lower right? Both corners call for an enclosure.
