  • In exchange, I’ll eat you

I would not accept


A less morbid example… dogs are probably the closest to a “voluntary” domestication. I’m not even sure they got a good deal

most (all?) societies have tried, but there tend to be rebellions, so I don’t think it really counts as domestication in the sense we mean it

At any rate, this is besides the point.

@BHydden is trying to assert that domestication is somehow a two-party agreement. @martin3141 and I are saying that is simply not the case for most types of domestication.

Has anyone noticed that this thread has morphed into an entirely different subject? It wouldn’t be so noticeable if the digression were about the “domestication” (cultivation) of coffee beans. Especially surprising is that we haven’t yet digressed in the favorite OGF manner by discussing the linguistics of the word coffee.

Latte’s are more milk than coffee anyway, so I won’t be too apologetic

Hmm, I’m not sure we ever got to the point where we were selectively breeding humans for certain desirable traits. Like elephants we just take too long… so likely we tamed other humans rather than domesticating them.

Most of the animals we domesticated get eaten by something. If I had to pick being eaten by a wolf or a human, I would probably pick the human.

You only think it’s a bad deal because you’re an apex predator.

We use coffee bags. Like tea bags but coffee.

Although I should also say that I don’t know what most of those options are or mean!

Right it totally slipped my mind… I don’t really use it and it’s not very common here as well.
But feels like it’s quite similar to drip/filter coffee? Maybe it wins in terms of convenience.

Well here I am in a coffee shop. But I actually always take a hot chocolate in these places.

And I do find the milk pattern thingy a bit disturbing overall…

for a moment there i was thinking “oh neat we’re done talking about human domestication now”
but this isn’t that much better :joy:

it looks really good! was it tasty? that’s the ‘rosetta’ latte art pattern i think. i found hot cocoa and cafe mocha the easiest whenever i tried to do latte art. it’s something about the chocolate syrup we used

I guess it depends what you’re into. I’ll just say that it’s not my cup of tea!

It was nice enough. I thought I got a bit of an artificial/chemical undertone on the first sip but it passed or I got used to it. The main thing is that it wasn’t very hot. I guess the foamy milk doesn’t really get hot or stay hot the way milk does at home when you just heat it.
