The First Go Battle Royale ⚔

This was also my idea when I played H11, although I’m not planning to continue with this direction too far, because that would intrude shinuito’s home.

I’ll jump in at N5:

Just kidding  I stayed out of this one because I expected that it would be a bit slow for my taste, but the pace y’all managed to keep so far is impressive! Maybe I’ll dare to join next time

Hey, this is just for fun anyways… so, if we have unanimous consent, why not let @antonTobi join the game as White…

May antonTobi join the game in progress?

Sorry, but I don’t think it would be in Auri and my interest for him to join, given the move he posted.

@Samraku, what are you planning to play next? Would you oppose me playing M11 or O8 or O9, for example?

I’m still not sure what our current relationship really is like.

Also, @martin3141, what do you think about me playing L13 or M13?

I would of course prefer something like M11, since that strengthens both of us against aggressive attachments.

And what is your plan? It would be helpful to know what you and Martin want to play next, so that we can find a way that works well for all of us.

I’m planning to play near the south east corner, but not sure how close, yet.

I’m not against it. If possible I would appreciate if you leave me a little bit of space to play in around my two stones. Whatever you choose to play, I’ll try to support you as a fellow member of the North.

I think I’ll mirror @yebellz then, and play M11. As @Samraku mentions, it’s also extra protection (hadn’t figured that out myself yet)

My experience with this game, so far, has been that it is simultaneously wholesome and vicious.

I just binge read the discussion so far and it was a roller coaster… FOMO :chart_with_upwards_trend: then :chart_with_downwards_trend: I remember why I always loved and hated playing Diplomacy!

I think multiplayer diplomatic style (discussions between moves, promises, betrayals etc) do indeed have the power to cause strong emotions too. I guess spending time on things planning things out and then having it fall apart can be a bit exhausting or draining if it ends up wasted.

Because I found the video interesting

I think there’s some idea that shorter games can have a tendency to be brushed off easier, because less time invested, and one can just play another and make up for if you were knocked out early/betrayed etc. Maybe less so if ones been playing a game for a week or so etc

That video shows puts in words quite nicely what I found, in the end, relatively hard about the Diplomatic Go game we played. It was exhilarating to play, and I’d like to think that I enjoyed it, but in the end I’m not sure if I really did, and some of my actions felt dirty and made me feel ashamed in some way. What’s weirder is that this realisation only became stronger long after the game had finished.

However, with the discussion happening in public, a lot of the negativity gets removed. Still, it does have some aspects of collusion. Hopefully it won’t sting as much.
