One player only has 3 days vacation left. Don’t know what happened to the other 57 but I can guess!
You are missing the “pause” hack: if white pauses the game, black’s timer switches from 3 days to full time (4 weeks in this case).
Vacation also works, weekend pause would also work (I wasn’t smart enough to start the tournament just before the weekend).
These slow games are great. 2.5k games are already finished and the slowest games don’t even have one move played. What a tournament.
Wow and it’s been over a month since it started. I wonder how many games have less than 5 moves played. How did you find those games?
Fun fact: some players are changing their country during this tournament.
Here are differences through time for each country:
I still don’t know where to look for countries full description, so some countries are still a ridddle for me (001? 154?) but we can throw some hypothesis on what’s happening.
First thing is: United Nations are bleeding players!
The overall number of players is still the same, so we must conclude that someone changed his mind and moved from UN to some other country. Probably going pirate and starfleet.
France, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Sudan, South Africa are increasing.
US lost one and gained two.
United Federation of planets, Klingon and Colombia are decreasing.
Top list with number of players on august 10th 2020:
Obviously the participants are a fair and random sample of the world population. Hence you are tracking migration patterns here! By watching how people time out and take vacations you can probably also track the current pandemic. We need to fix citation rules for this tournament, because no doubt it will be cited in all sorts of scientific articles very soon.
Maybe “un” is unspecified?
Oh, well, people leaving “unspecified” because they pick up a country sounds legit but way less dramatic than people leaving UN for local countries.
By the way, leaving the USA to join House Tully, but then switching back to the USA a few days later was me.
But why?!?
Well, I wanted to go on a brief trip abroad, and House Tully is one of the few places without travel restrictions on people from the USA right now.
In reality, I was just playing around and wanted to illustrate that the selected country flags are not too meaningful for indicating country of origin. This was motivated by some earlier discussion in this thread about these flag statistics.
But why House Tully? It’s the least appealing house. Well, maybe bit the least appealing, but it’s surely in the low 5.
I don’t know. I guess I liked the fish on the flag.
Why do people care so much?
Didn’t Tully die out? We could do with you for a few more seasons rounds, but no need to die this early in the game.
GoT Spoiler
Edmure Tully is still alive at the end of TV series
Goes to show how completely I’ve erased the ending from my brain.
It’s no like I really care - but I’m waiting for all my opponents to make a move. Sow why not a little small talk?
Like - what great House would be even more uninteresting than Tully? Maybe Arryn. Martell is really bad in the tv series, but much better in the books.
Honestly, I think you’ve given more thought to my flag choice than I ever did. My selection had nothing to do with what I thought about House Tully or the others, I just liked that flag slightly more than the others, in the brief moment that I considered before picking something. I think writing these sentences took me much more time than making this pointless decision.
I never even watched the last three episodes, and just read the spoilers and bad reviews online.
I never watched anything after the fourth season, because in my opinion, the series didn’t do the books justice. Watching it just made me sad and angry.
Well, uhm, topic… flags… Sure, it would be nice to use an interesting one, but I think people interpret so much into it, so I stick with the European Union’s flag. I don’t like the German flag much.
Btw, I really like the Esperanto flag and the idea behind Esperanto, but I don’t speak it (can just read it a little bit), so it would be embarrassing if I used it and people would write me messages that I can’t answer.
Back on topic, sorry
In my group, a player has started all his games, played a few moves in the first days, engaged in conversation, but stopped playing after less than a week. By tomorrow, he will time out a first game (against myself) if he does not make a move. I sent him a message on the chat to ask if he was OK, without answer so far. I think it would be fair play and in the spirit of this tournament to pause the game before he times out, and I will certainly do it and maybe suggest to other players in the group to do the same. But if unfortunately he never answers back, by when would it be correct to restart the game and let the time flow again?
@S_Alexander as the Great Master of this Great Tournament, what would you say?
