Toggle to enable/disable stone shadows

Could a toggle for stone shadows be added to the “Themes & Visuals” page in settings?

I know there’s a lot of work to be done on the site by the developers already. Appreciate all the hard work you do, regardless of whether or not this gets implemented

We have so many options there, I’m stunned we don’t already have this

Maybe it is already implemented. You should paint a stone without a shadow and upload it somewhere or encode into base64

I think the OP is referring to the shadow of the stone that is cast on the board, not the shadowing showing the contour of the stone:

I’m 99% sure we render that, and someone went to a lot of trouble to get it “just right” :squinting_face_with_tongue:

(I can recall discussions about the radius of stones and how that affects this shadow)

When old renderer is enabled there is nothing is cast on the board except the image of the stone.

So it is still possible to turn shadows off by uploading images without shadows.

Ah true. Although you do lose some of the other features using this method: you can’t make the stones touch, “reduce removed stone size” doesn’t work, nor do the “removed stone graphic” and the “stone font scale” options.

I know. I don’t like new renderer. I’m used to the old display.

Any UI changes always irritate me.

P. S. Do you see brown ranges at the screenshot? I hate it. It was blue before Chrome update. Now it is synced with Windows color theme. I wanna switch it back. I do not know how. It’s not OGS related. It affects any webpage.

I quite like the new new goban renderer, I especially like the design changes for removed stones. But I understand your frustration, redesigns in general usually bug me. Though I am stubborn and hate change.

Yikes, those sliders look terrible!

Is it just my eyes, or does the semi-transparent stone also look brownish.

There’s something really wrong there

No, it’s the shadow of the trees, not just the stone

No. Brownish is only browser UI elements likes checkbox and sliders. And it is not OGS bug. But may be it is possible to fix it by overriding style in CSS.

Maybe take the brown out of your “Windows Color Theme”?

(I’m not a Windows user, so I don’t know if this is a thing, but hey… it might be? )

I tried. It solves the issue with chrome but makes another with Windows UI.
