Ah yeah, I’m going to play a bit with that next week
(On android phone) I like the idea of more optionality, not necess. on the screen as that could lead to optionality sprawl, but in the Settings > Game Preferences. Or perhaps UI Version Preferences w a list going back to the version prior to the recent overhaul. At this point what gives me trouble is, after experimenting with moves that are labeled with numbers, having to move the board up to find the Return to Game button a then to have to move the board down again to make a move. Maybe the button could remain visible when experimenting, labeled Return to Game when the >> arrow is initially pressed, initiating numbered potential moves, and when the >> arrow is pressed again, it could reset to the current game positions, with the button relabeled Submit so the next move could be submitted. Or, when only one move is entered, the Submit button could remain, but when a second and further move w the other color is experimentally made, the button could change to Return to Game, etc
When I write something in the chatbox and move between games without sending the message, the message “follows” between the games.
Thanks for letting me know, it’s fixed
Hello,
Sorry if this was already discussed here, but I started having issues with the chat function within the games. I play on phone. When I press the chat icon, the screen flickers and scrolls back up to the game. It started around 2 hours ago, one game before the Server was paused for a few minutes.
Thank you
Yes, exactly.
Should be fixed, thanks for bringing it to my attention
Please - stop changing the UI. If you want to keep changing it just give us a way to have the old UI back. These are poorly designed changes and they make the UX worse. Why hide the undo button - it should be easily accessible. What was wrong with the old UI 2 clear cards showing the colour? The whole board kind of shrinks and then comes back to size at the end of the game.
Black-to-white gradient on mobile top card during game looks wildly bad, esp if either player’s name is in gold.
Most of the recent UI changes are fine, but what even happened here?
Also “captures 7” instead of “7 captures”?
It’s annoying when things look flashier but have worse function. What’s the point of the flashiness?the fade at the top of color makes it hard to see the opponents rating level, just make a clean line in the middle, no need for ombré. Also since the changes I feel like players names have been cut off more. Buttons are less intuitive, having the ai enable button hidden away is annoying. Just in general, function, simplicity, cleanness should be the priority as the ux is just a facilitator for the game, having jazzy flashiness interfer with smooth playing demonstrates that the developers are thinking more about the looks than the game playing, a shallow approach, especially when it comes out this clumsy
the new approach to fix color confusion does fix the confusion, which was the main/critical issue. You can now clearly tell who’s playing black and who’s playing white. That was a nightmare beforehand.
Gold nicknames not having enough contrast vs. white, and the weird “captures 7” wording… sure, they’re bugs that should be fixed, but we’re no longer in critical land now. It’s at least going in the good direction, let’s give them that.
I’d argue regressing from (presumably) passing WCAG standards for text contrast to failing is a critical regression – accessibility matters, and is more than just a matter of aesthetics.
If I were to work on this, my instinct is I’d experiment with just making each side a flat black/white, no gradient, and making the middle rules/komi/turn/move number column some sort of gray.
For those that have hated the new changes, please checkout the new layout options under settings, you can pretty much get back to the way it was.
Thanks Anoek! Funny, I had just solved the android (at least on my own Samsung phone) issue and realized that to return from numbered experimental moves to Game mode (to make my move), rather than needing to swipe the board up to click Return to Game, and then swiping the board back down (to see it again and make the move)I can just click the org chart icon and this returns it to the game so a move can be made
What about those who wants adjustments to the new changes?
Do you have something specific in mind that you think should be tweakable?
Mentioned it here
Regarding the chat, did you try out the new layout option that puts the chat on the left?
