Upcoming interface changes to the Game page and AI reviews

Please - give a way to revert to the old interface. The whole white banner is distracting. The clock movement is distracting. I have no idea why these changes were deemed necessary.

My pros and cons so far:

pros

  • the board is larger
  • no more side panel that suddenly pops up when i move my mouse too far on the right
  • gamechat input line isn’t behind minimized pm boxes, which makes it much easier to chat during a game
  • so many things to tinker with! i really love how customisable everything is, althought i question the sanity of a person who uses stone scale at 1.5 xD
  • i also love how the UI settings are now all in the same place, and also i can now see how each setting affects the look (compared to the old ‘navigate back and forth between the settings page and a game page to see the changes’)

cons

  • there is too much empty background space, feels like wasted realestate
  • gamechat is really small, especially on the finished games, when the ai analysis stuff is placed on the same spot as the chat. Gamachat is unfortunately tiny also on reviews due all the review tools taking up space
  • on analysis mode, scrolling on the move tree seems broken, it just keep glitching over the same part of the tree
  • now when everything is lined up so neatly, having so many different font sizes feels odd
  • the slider is very yanky when using laptop touchpad (hard to make movements directly in side-to-side direction while avoiding up-down direction)
  • if the game is part of a tournament which has some insanely long name, the little box that appears when clicking “…” is absurdly wide.

So i suggest the following:

  • The side panel could be expanded with some click-and-drag action. Then i could make the panel wider and eliminate that empty background space between the panel and the board
  • Make the border between analysis tools / ai analysis and the game chat be adjustable with similar click-and-drag method
  • Fix the move tree scrolling issue on analysis mode
  • Adjust the slider so that accidentally going too much up from the designated area wouldn’t release the slider
  • More uniform font sizes, or more reasonable
  • Maybe the tournament name could be shortened or put on multiple rows if the name is very long
  • Put SE on the bottom bar, it is probably way more often used feature than the conditional moves

I haven’t tested on mobile yet as i mostly access ogs on a laptop

Do you really think that a settings window popping up in the middle of a game is convenient, especially when it’s a blitz?

You can take off the clock movement (and also change many other elements) by clicking the cog at the bottom of the side panel, and then “more options”

The new game interface is not good. The move bar at the bottom makes it so that you need to scroll down to see the “submit move” button thus not seeing the whole board when playing on phone.

Is there anything to do about this?

Another bug that I had in my last game was that my opponent’s group was dead (one eye only) while my groups had 2 eyes and the score didnt mark the group as dead. I had to spend moves to capture the group for it to recognize that its my points.

1st point, agree this is a serious problem that needs fixing.

2nd, did you mark the group dead during the marking of groups phase of scoring? The auto-marking of groups is just the OGS server trying to be helpful, but is not a promise to do them all correctly. It’s the players responsibility to mark the dead groups. Unless you are playing a bot and they you can’t and the system is flawed.

Agreed harder to use on a phone and miss the old one!

Please refresh on your phones if you are having to scroll to see the submit button, that should be fixed as of about 12 hours ago

FTR new updates include an adjustable width for the side bar, it should be somewhat smart about filling in some space on wide monitors, and you can now grab it and resize it to whatever size you want if you want it something different.

The score estimator icon is now available on the icon bar at the bottom if there’s room.

There’s also now a keyboard shortcut list you can view in the ‘…’ menu.

I still can’t see the current score or score chart when reviewing the game on my phone. The space where these used to be now seems taken up by the boxes with player names above and below the board…

I found a glitch in the new menue.

if i press on the 3 dots the menue exstends slowly infinite .

I see this on my mobile phone when analyzing the game.

Perhaps something like this would save vertical space:

Putting the SE behind “…” is a bad idea.

Before, I could click the SE several times to get different estimates.
Now I must always click TWICE to get another estimate.

(Note: I have no intention to discuss whether SE is a good idea or not, so please let’s not go there here and now.)

Shift reload @trohde, it’s on the bar now too

Oh, THANKS :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :folded_hands:

[A few minutes later]

But wait … look, @anoek:

2026-09-04 - 17.23.29 - Safari Black to move

Shift+reload did nothing noticeable … clearing the cache did nothing noticeable either …

But now, when I reload (either with or without Shift), it shows the SE very shortly in the bar but it disappears immediately to behind the ellipsis again :open_mouth:

  • macOS “Golden Gate” 27.0 public Beta (26A5425a)
  • Safari

Hmm ok temporary fix, resize the side bar there to be a little wider. I’ll see about adjusting the thresholds so it’s visible by default when the moderator icon is also present.

Oh… ah… I wasn’t aware that I can resize the side bar … everything’s fine now, THANK YOU!

(desktop) the board shifts to the right when reviewing. can we put it exactly at the same spot playing vs reviewing?
