Please get rid of the obligatory move slider monopolizing the bottom of the phone screen
I too would like this, but never bothered writing a post. I like the graph on, but board clean, when replaying a game.
And as mentioned I like to see the graph at the same time as the board, which is no longer possible on mobile with this new layout.
Also agree with point 2, colour of ghost stone or outline and score/win loss big number suffices to communicate this, it’s too small and busy with the extra icon.
Completely agree. I want to see my name at the top (call me vain) with how much time I have left. Don’t really care how much time the other guy has left, none of my business, above my pay grade. Want to see the submit button. Want to be able to try out moves easily and then easily completely revert to the current state of play with one click rather than having to click the back arrow repeatedly. Want to see the chat window as the default. Have absolutely no need for a slider of any size, certainly not one taking up the entire bottom of my screen and hiding options that are useful. Want a quick score estimate w 1 click, not to have to open a menu. Would really appreciate the “Resign” button being far away from everything else rather than an accident waiting to happen. Rant over, love this server, appreciate all the work done behind the scenes to maintain it, but sorry, really hate the update.
I don’t know whether anyone has said this already, and I’m not reading 63 posts to find out. However…
The disappearance of the forward and backward move buttons below the board are a tremendous loss. The slider is extremely inconvenient for exploring variations and for determining whether someone stalled in a CM report.
Please bring back the buttons below the board.
I honestly can’t play using the new interface on my Android. I play Go to relax, not to fight with a UI.
What was the point of “fixing” what wasn’t broke? The new UI seems over-engineered simply for the sake of it
Ok all, I’ve implemented a number of changes to help on mobile.
-
The move slider is no longer a slider by default, and is now a toggle option if you liked the slider (you can find it under “More options”. If you want it on by default, please chime in here, otherwise based on the above backlash it sounds like buttons are the preferred default).
-
The move slider/buttons are no longer present by default on mobile, only when you’re in analysis mode.
-
The title has been removed on mobile.
-
The move submit and pass buttons now have layout priority and will shrink the board if necessary so they are always visible.
Hopefully this helps a bit on mobile. I’ll be chipping away at things more tomorrow, thanks for all the feedback and bug reports!

Much better. Since we have your ear, for some time now on my android phone, under Active Games, the only things that appear are Move, Game, and half of the opponents name. Swiping left doesn’t work to show the rest of the columns like it used to.
Also, once the little flow chart button is pressed to reveal all the stuff that used to be there by default, it would be great if it all stayed there by default for all games for the duration of the login (i.e., forever, if one is permanently logged in). The chat option is remaining activated across games but not the flow chart button option.
It is only natural that there are some errors to fix given that this is a major update; it is great to see OGS adopting such a modern design style.
@anoek
By default AI review view is turned on
Most games don’t have supporter level review.
So most users most of time see those annoying ghost stones while there is no AI review.
There is some sense in ghost stones on moves which have AI suggestions shown.
There is no sense on other moves, those ghosts are just annoying.

if ghosts will be on moves with AI review showed only and no ghosts on other it will be even more confusing
people will have to turn it off and on often
or don’t turn off and suffer
or just turn off and forget that AI exists
It becomes really unclear what I mean when I say “move 44” in chat
especially when some viewers turned on AI and other turned off
After the last round of adjustments, it got playable again. Thanks, @anoek!
I really like new designs for these kind of websites, but also, would it may be possible to revert to the old UI for example if the new one hurts eyes? It’s nice to give people choices, since this is a Go website and a lot of people are used to the old one
For example the black is too black, the white is too white. At least add a neutral theme.
Thank you for consideration
Instead of playing Go, it feels more like playing hide and seek.
Unclear what problems were being solved. Can these confusing changes please be made optional?
Can’t play right now. Hopefully more patience tomorrow. ![]()
Shift+Z still works and takes you in and out of Zen mode.
My small pet peeve is that the side panel seems to have a fixed width, I believe 400 px. One of the reasons for turning Zen mode for me was to enlarge the playing area, especially using a smaller screen. However, even on a fairly big screen, now a lot of real estate seems used by the constant-width sidebar.
Okay, constructive feedback: when you are playing on the phone (this is Safari for iOS), and the other player passes, you now just see that it’s your go, but it does not say that the other player has passed. You can waste some precious seconds looking to see where the other player moved when they haven’t actually done anything.
Please can you restore some visual cue or just the words that actually say that the other player has passed?
That fixed 400 also applies to analyze/demo on desktop, so whilst you want it smaller in your case, I want it bigger in this one, as now you get a pokey little game tree and lots of wasted space:
much better thanks
I’ve gotten used to be able to use the score estimator with one click (as an observer), now it takes two clicks, even though there is plenty of space on my screen. I just learned that the estimator can also be called with Shift+E, so I’m actually OK with this. Maybe these keyboard short-cuts could be documented within the UI (at least for desktop users). I was only able to guess this one because ronin3 mentioned Shift+Z for Zen mode.
