What do you mean? When could the stones move? They never move, that’s how Go is played is it not? Maybe I’m misunderstanding you…

They talk about a go variant. (Another game as go)

Oh, I think I get it. Like a game that is like Go but one in which the stones are allowed to be moved around while the game is in progress. Is that it?

A game which use go materials but which is not go

What about the naive solution? On each turn, instead of placing a stone, one may choose instead to move 1 of their stones already on the board to an adjacent empty point (whatever Ko rule is in effect applies as normal; if you’re not using Superko, you’re on your own; start using Superko)

This seems too weak to me, as in most cases simply adding a new stone would be just better. Perhaps being able to move any stone to any of the liberties of its string would be powerful enough? So a single stone could still move 1 in each direction, but larger strings could slither faster? Still would normally be better to just add a stone, though

Maybe use one of those two options, but you optionally do it each turn in addition to placing a stone? So you’re not giving up a stone placement to do it

It looks like the naive solution (player move one stone instead of playing one stone) would change life and death.

  • Two eyes is still unconditionally alive
  • One eye of size 2 could be unconditionally alive if there is a friendly stone that could move into the space.

This would make attacking exceptionally difficult and maybe make games very even. Threats are hard to come by. Tiny groups would be able to live everywhere, even inside enemy territory.

Just speculating
