Where do kids get “heat days” off? Death Valley? I don’t tell stories about how I walked to school going uphill both ways, but seriously: my elementary school, like virtually all the elementary schools 60 years ago, went until mid-June, when temperatures often reached into the 90s with 90 percent humidity, and we had absolutely no air conditioning.
