I’m not sure, but I assume glicko can actually become negative as well. Or at least, that’s from my memory of studying it several years back when it was implemented.
Intersting. I was actually wondering whether the way it is calculated even lets it get to zero - it’s not asymtotic is it?
I am here just to see @Gia becoming SDK
I believe the idea to look at it, is as Elo, but with bell curves instead of a single number for the ratings. The amount of points you gain after a game, only depends on the difference between your and your opponent’s rating, and the SDs of the bell curves. Like Elo, it’s not the amount of rank, but the difference that’s used, thus making it completely arbitrary if you’re 1500 and 1600 ranked players, or 4500 and 4600, or -100 and 0 ranked.
Not even God himself could.
LOL, no worries, I’m waaay too often up until the birbs begin tweeting ![]()
I failed to reach OGS SDK before it was cool
Ah I can understand that.
Btw it’s just morning here, sun starting to warm the skins, I can wait if it’s late.
Don’t worry, so did I ![]()
The final countdown is beginning soon.
Is there a countdown timer for Discourse?
Or maybe something outside we can link here so it shows inline?
Will there be fireworks?
Should I self-intoxicate?
Lights off, full screen, speakers to max.
Blame @AkiraToya325 ![]()
The good side about the bug is that the few dan players could brag about their OGS rank.
Just to set expectations, basically what’s going to happen is I’ll do the normal update routine which involves pausing games, updating code, unpausing games, and then there will be a period of time where we set everyone’s “active” ratings to the new ratings, which will take awhile. I’m prioritizing recent players that have used the site, and anyone who finishes a game gets bumped up to the head of the line essentially. Everyone else will take probably a few hours before everything is copied over. Your rating charts however will be up to date immediately upon the UI update, and you can see where the random number generator fancy glicko2 math landed you.
Anyone up for a 10 minute absolute time game?

Set it as random and it kind of fixes the forever 25k problem
I remember this part working so well last time ![]()
Easier way, if you have correspondence games up that you’re planning to resign anyways.
technically it’s Elo, but without the simplifying assumption that everyone’s rating is more or less equal in certainty (which is why elo has a K-value and glicko has RD)
but yes, it is relative and dependent largely on how you initialize things. you could start everyone at 0 Elo – which glicko technically does in the background with glicko scale – but half the population being negative isn’t usually appreciated
