All-in-one democratic go game (how-to)

My message to cult of Tengen:
all you need is 2 fanatics - the first will say “Tengen is The Only Move” , the second will accept and create the speed poll.
If someone else will create speed poll, just suggest Tengen each time, and so, no heretic speed poll will ever work.

Sure you can just break any speed poll and bring back a normal poll like this. The game will still go on.

Now are you sure it will bring fun and interest to us? And bring more votes for tengen?

or you can request at least 3 “other move” votes in order to cancel speed poll

Let say we go for a fight somewhere and someone find a refutation. 1 move. How would we ask for 3?

(I don’t understand)
I mean 3 people should click 1 “other move” option
or speed polls will be too fragile

That’s an interesting idea like we could ask for an agreement between 2 players to break for ensuring some quality. But I’m kind of optimistic, trusting players will on their own take care of their act and not making the rules more and more complicated. But if it appears that speed polls don’t work that well, we can modify it.

In terms of a live democratic type of game, the banner on the site now links to Yoonyoung Kim playing against the stream and they can vote in chat by !+move on what to play

I would greatly participate but I can’t technically! Wish a huge fun to all of you there!

speed polls should be only 1 move long, or there is too big probability that someone would be against move after move.
Better 2 separate speed polls one after another

Ok there are some new ideas around

Speed poll for one move only

No speed poll

Normal poll with sequence. (That could be longer)

And keeping the system.

Anything else?

I don’t like polls in the way it may split players away but ok if we need changes, will do.

There are several move polls here that should definitely be moved back to the game thread:

There might also be some other discussion about the specific game that was accidentally moved here as well, but I haven’t checked carefully.

The idea was the speed poll for a sequence breaks only for the different move and the following. So if you break the third move the speedy is still running for the 1 and the 2.

I’m very sorry of this mess but discourse don’t allow to put back at the right place. At least I will ask to put them back (in the right order) like an annex at the end of the game, that’s the best we can do. I did check carefully, I made the list already.

What if we included a move combo in the poll and have that along with the move just by itself (for example s15 as one choice and s15+q15 as another choice)? We’d have to allow multiple votes, of course, so that people could vote for both the move by itself and the move combo. But that way everyone gets the usual 24 hours to deliberate on the faster pace.

That’s completely pertinent ideas; I took care to not speed it too much by requiring half of the participants which I fought will give some credibility enough.

Well I take note of your suggestions, that’s interesting.
Maybe in some more one way street, you ll join the idea of the speeding, let see

I like @mark5000’s suggestion that we could have a slower (24 hrs or more) vote on a sequence.

To me, that’s very different than having a faster vote on a single move.

Fast votes exclude people, which is what I don’t like.

Each 24-hour poll already only gets responses from a fraction of the participants. Remember that we had 36 people vote for the first move, and there are several players that come in and out of the game, not participating in every poll or discussion. Thus, half of the number that replied in the previous poll is always significantly smaller than half of the total participants. We already had one speeding poll decided by only 7 people. A small group might often come to agreement on a good move, but it’s not a certainty that they could not all make the same mistake in haste.

Ok, I propose we have a talk on these speeding things in the [how-to] so we can keep focused here on the game. I’m open to discuss and changes for any improvement with consensus.

Back to the poll topic, if you can formulate precise propositions for change, we can then open a poll as fair as possible later to fix and get the most consensual rule.

  1. create empty topic
  2. move last posts from game to empty topic
  3. move posts from how-to topic to game topic
  4. move posts from ‘empty topic’ to game topic
  5. delete 'empty topic

Ok, then still have to find a motivated admin for that (i can’t do it myself as regular).
