I’m not sure @Eugene is coming back with a pic… should I take this one?
Man talk about in a hurry! There’s a whole world out there to choose from it’s a bit ticky!
At first glance not much to go by, but anyone who has done this drive knows where it is, and there are a few clues that should help.
I guess that it’s on a National Highway.
Also funny how you immediately violated @Sanonius proposal:
Alright, time to get searching!
Nice clue spotting - full marks for that…
Sanonius: Can we do some guidelines, like, ‘No godforsaken highways in the middle of the Canadian, USAnian or Russian hinterland’? And there have to be landmarks of some kind, like a building or sign with more text than a mere traffic sign.
I have to say I agree ![]()
It’s not in Canada, USanian or Russian hinterland.
There’s also a landmark (“National highway”), other subtle clues, and … it is not godforsaken, it’s moderately famous, in it’s own way.
I guess we’re “somewhere” on National Highway 1?
I don’t know you’d get more information than that. All we have is a road with Australian trees.
The markings on the road make me think it’s a country with right-hand traffic.
Edit: I was actually gonna say left-hand traffic, but then I changed it, and now I don’t know what’s true anymore.
I’ll leave that one for bonus Australian notable-landmark guesser points. There are two clues remaining that haven’t been mentioned yet.
Here’s a more appropriate pic:
It’s the longest straight section of road in Australia and one of the longest in the world, Eyre highway between Balladonia & Caiguna. The picture is going in the direction of Balladonia.
I can get more precise, but that’s going to take a while
Random guess, Botany Bay? Or Shark Bay?
I guess it’s Vsotvep’s go now, then.
Winner of the bonus Australian landmark guess!
I suppose we can skip the other one, and let Vsotvep take his rightful turn. Or he could blow us away with spotting where the other totally famous hardly-likely-to-be-Australian-with-all-that-snow view is as well!!
… now you can officially do the lake with the mountains in the background
Like I haven’t been doing that for the past 20 minutes already
Here’s what I’ve been thinking:
- There are pine trees in the background, so it can’t be a hot climate. Either it’s quite north, or it’s quite south, or it’s highland.
- There are some shrubs that are not grassy between the rocks, those usually lose their leaves in winter, so I guess it’s summer in this picture. That also fits with the snow on the mountains in the foreground-background, which has mostly disappeared, spare for a few patches (unlikely that those are the result of local snowfall), and the fact that the water level is not very high (there’s no vegetation close to the water side)
- Google states that the image was captured in December.
- December + summer means southern hemisphere.
My bet is that it’s somewhere in New Zealand
Lake Pukaki is very similar.
@Eugene: it’s Lake Pukaki.
Well, I’ve looked through rail bridges in Switzerland, Austria, Japan, and the USA. I don’t think I’m going to get this.
