Features everyone secretly wants on OGS but will never be implemented

“Also resign” lol

Call for a benevolent psychanalyst (or a psy doctor).

Considering that

  • Go is an addiction for some users.
  • OGS is suffering from deviant attitude like rudeness, stalling, escaping, sandbagging…

It would be in our collective interest (and individual too) if someone could give a bit of its free time to bring some psycho help (in privacy ofc)

Oh yes, let’s make it an AI to give room for people to complain how horrible it is and how the only solution to their psych problems is to fix the technology.

I didn’t ask for AI.

Write this quote on the frontpage of OGS

On the OGS forum I want a “ha ha” (laughing) button next to the heart button… Oops, did I type that out loud? I guess it is no longer a secret I want that… but it will still probably never be implemented. :slight_smile:

Discourse actually allows for Emoji reactions in addition to the :heart: button (optional feature, to be turned on by the forum admin, i.e. @anoek), but I’m not really sure we’d want that here … “:joy:” is all too often used as “laughing at”, i.e. ridiculing, instead of “laughing about”, and I don’t think such possible emotional heating is desirable here as exists on Fecesbook.

Good point… So from now on I’ll just do something like:

:+1:t3:
but with a :smile: or :rofl: instead… More keystrokes (time) needed, but not much, and worth it. Thanks again Tom!

Yeah, I get what you mean … in an ideal world that wouldn’t be a problem.

But with thousands of people things can quickly gain weird dynamics.

So better to let us do some work if we want :rofl: (on macOS it is ctrl+cmd+Space to summon the Character Viewer with Emoji (and Unicode etc.), so not really much work/time.)

:hugs:

<edit>
Also, there is this icon in the text edit pane: image, and when you type a space and a colon this happens:

navigatable with arrow keys, or, if you know the name of the emoji, you can simply begin typing it after the colon, and the list narrows down the selection to what you want.

“UNconditional moves” … for when you are sure you want to kill your opponent’s 65-point dragon that has been in atari for 5 moves, and you just noticed it… (and no matter what they play, you are going to kill it before they notice and connect).
… and that is not living dangerously too much. :grin:

I actually actively do not want multiple “like” options. I like the simplicity of either liking, or not. No ambiguity about what it means, and if it’s too vague for you, then make a post :slight_smile: I like seeing numbers go up, and the simplicity of seeing a post of mine got such and such number of likes, is much more satisfying than a smattering of different reactions

EDIT: forgot what thread it was, lol

not all “like” options though. Some of us want the :-1: hehe

I’d be fine with a binary :+1: :-1: , it’s the multivariadic orthogonal ones I object to

@benjito
If i had that one I’ll put it to your answer at first because my life is beautiful without it.

Now I need the :rage: react

But could be useful as a “go for the kill!” in kibbitz

Variant: Kibitz Go. Spectators can send emoji which the players can then see, but the players have to guess what the emoji mean

(inb4 someone comes up with an emoji language like happened in those Werewolf games a while back to circumvent Emoji Sickness)

Wouldn’t that violate at least the spirit of the OGS’s policy against public shaming? YouTube dropped the numbers on the thumbs-down years ago.

That popular decision :smiley: I canceled Youtube Red over that, though only because it was the last straw for me. But a forum discussion is a different context than video content

I don’t think so. No more than posting saying you disagree with someone else’s post does
