ical link: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/gocalendarbygia%40gmail.com/public/basic.ics

ETA: Google Forms seems to be cumbersome, you can all also send events to gocalendarbygia @ gmail.com, reply in this thread or send me a PM, just please keep the following format

EVENT: (tournament, title or other)
DATE: dd/mm/yyyy
TIME: (in GMT, please make it easier for me to skip conversions!)
PLAYERS: (full name and rank)
VENUE: (e.g. OGS)
COMMENTS: (any other info you find useful. I’ll be going back to add sgf etc when I find them).

Anyone who finds it easier this way, an also use this form

And embedded

______-

Since:

-I can’t github.
-I’ve asked about such a feature myself.
-I could be the change I want to see.

I’m considering creating a public Google calendar with Go events and share the link publicly.

Everyone can have it in their Google calendar (I apologize in advance to people who don’t use Google products but :woman_shrugging:t2:), but I’ll be the one editing it.

I could create a standard form so that anyone can send me a game/ event to put on the calendar.

I can update at least once daily, I’ll try to keep on top of things.

I’d have to rely on community effort to find out about those events/ games etc, since I’m not registered/ subscribed/ involved in official thingies anywhere.

Would you be interested in such a feature? (do enough people care for me to set it up?)

I want a GGbG because G.

Note: no streams etc that are mostly content, only pro games and other official events.

Google Calendar provides standard ical links for calendars, so the non-Google people should be just fine.

It can also follow an ical link, in case the future maintainer wants to edit the events in some other way. (Though last I checked it’s super slow to update.)

A decent enough crowd. :slightly_smiling_face:

The plan is to get GGbG off the ground this weekend.

Anyone has any imminent games / events please post them below, from weekend going forward the form will be ready.

I hope it gets traction, if it doesn’t well I gandhied. :woman_shrugging:t2:

I guess the European Pros - 2nd Transatlantic Professional Go League is a good start. The third place playoff is likely to be on Saturday, and Sat+Sun probably for the best of 5 finals.

I guess just a placeholder until times are confirmed

The link didn’t work well for me on mobile (Android). It loaded my calendar instead, in a browser window, which I had to switch to desktop view to see the option to add yours. Maybe someone knows how you make a better link?

I have that problem with Google products all the time :frowning:
All apps installed, yet it goes to browser page…

I don’t know a better way, unfortunately, but I’ll look into it.

If you don’t mind being a test subject, could you tell me if one of those works better?

nvm, it returns errors.

I think that’s the only way to add a new calendar, the app doesn’t handle that IIRC

One thing we can try is embedding the calendar in a forum post:

I’m not sure if it’s useful, but it seemed worth trying.

EDIT: the + button at the bottom seems to work better for me than a normal link. Does it work for others too?

Is this calendar for events that people can watch or follow (such as Transatlantic and Samsung Cup) or for events people can play in?

If it’s the latter one, I’d love it people added more events to https://baduk.club/calendar

Anyone can do it, nearby players will be notified and, I’m planning to add more features soon (based on feedback, feedback welcome!)

Might be another thing the Aga or Nagf could consider looking into if revamping their site.

If they could include your calendar, add events to it, maybe similar to the EGF one European Tournament Calendar

I was thinking more of a calendar for pro events, worldwide (I hope someone can provide me the Asian titles matches, because my search is suboptimal).

I hope you don’t mind if a steal a couple of events from the link you provided .

If enough people ask for it in the future, of course I’ll consider adding events where people can play, but for now I want it focused on pro games and events. Or something really significant, like a congress.

I want to suggest to edit the first post in the thread to shift the attention from the ask to the value. I.e., embed the calendar and provide a link to the google form.

I’m thinking of adding some Asian pro games, does anyone know where I should start?

Events in calendar are permanent, so I can go back and add relays/ VOD etc as they come, even for older games.

Is there a general guideline of when matches happen, like the Olympics that are summer every 4 years (except covid) or Champions League that runs a more or less consistent season throughout the year?

There’s a couple of places I’d think to find information like

and apparently there’s a Reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/proweiqi/

Someone suggested Go News - Go to Everyone! for scheduled events.

Maybe something like https://www.nihonkiin.or.jp/event/ with google translate or deepl. There seems to be news/events sections.

The Jena go school JIGS, used to do news updates but I haven’t seen them in a while.

Aga does cover news from abroad, but probably mostly as summaries after it happened https://www.usgo.org/

I think it would have value to add events afterwards, since I would also add the sgf if I can find it. I don’t know if people would be interested though.

I mean, during the weekend someone could check and see that on Tuesday a game was played and they can see the relay on OGS.

I think it should be possible to find a lot of sgfs. Sites like go4go seem to stay regularly updated, and there’s some other sites that were suggested like

and with the European journal and smartgo (when it’s updated) I should have access to more sgfs than I will ever want to look through :stuck_out_tongue:
