With reference to the order founded by Adam Weishaupt, the Illuminati was an imposture invented by a mountebank. Its pretenses were entirely imaginary. See Charles William Heckethorn’s chapter on it in volume 1 of his classic work The Secret Societies of All Ages and Countries.
The base of it is “finding” the Eye of Providence in the most random places with no actual connection to it whatsoever, often throwing the viewer off where they’re expecting to be pointed to.
For example: Picture with someone holding a speech, flag in the background, zooming in to the flag bit by bit and then “finding” a triangle in a fold of the suit of the shoulder of the person still being in frame.
