Browsing thru the recent history of this thread there see to be quite a lot days Go Memes stood still.
This tread seems not as popular anymore as it used to be.

too close to home :upside_down_face:

When your video explains the rules of go succinctly and quickly including ko, but you put in a one frame caveat

Teaching people go is much harder than I imagined before trying it. The last person I taught took issue with the idea of internal liberties, and said that didn’t make sense without an extra dimension…?!?

I don’t touch on the deeper rules/aspects much other than to say they emerge from situations caused by the rules that are the foundation of the game. Ko, seki, throwing in, snap backs, etc. are all confusing/boring distractions that lose new players. Instead, when a ko comes up, it’s a perfect time to explain the rule because it makes sense in context.

when most of your game is pain

There’s like one frame of the word “pain” at the end of this clip, but it’s too painful to get with a web converter / gif maker , I should probably just learn to download the frames I want myself.

I don’t tend to treat “internal liberties” as a separate concept, I just give examples of L&D situations that make use of them to explain the “no self-capture” rule as well as the “when it’s your turn, your capture takes priority over being captured”

Nor do I. Same as you, I simply start by introducing the idea of life and death: How do I not get captured? How about a hole inside like a doughnut or bagel and why that doesn’t work. But what if you have two? Their response was, " How is this a liberty if I can’t play there?" Kind of left me speechless.

A liberty of a stone is an unoccupied intersection adjacent to that stone or to any stone connected to that stone.

Of course. I am not confused. They simply did not want to accept that explanation. Never had that kind of reaction before.
