Speaking of Sumire, I saw she was on the cover of the August issue of Go World 碁ワールド. On Twitter I saw a comment to @igoayaya15 about Ladder Art (シチョウ de アート == “shichō de āto”) and Sumire’s picture. (Igoayaya15 is an amateur and Go teacher who makes a bunch of fun ladder picture-puzzle and posts them on twitter.) So then I was guessing that Sumire’s 100 win photo actually had a ladder puzzle in it. I just got my copy of Go World today and sure enough it is ladder art. Apparently Igoayaya’s ladder art is a new serial article in Go World.
Results are coming in. Virzhinia got destroyed, no wonder, Ayumi is a top Japanese female player. Note old joseki from black. In both European games they used this, must be home preparation.
Nakamura Sumire tried with big shimari but couldn’t do it. There’re so many Chinese they add numbers to the names, haha.
Look at this. Extremely close. Dina had a real chance to win, she was winning. But professional experience in the endgame just dominating.
Joanne Missingham beat top Chinese player. Yu Zhiying could’ve been expected to be in finals, I think, of this cup. So everyone is congratulating Joanne Missingham.
And if you look at the pairings for the third round
Names aren’t especially important but we have three Korean, two Chinese, two Taiwanese and one Japanese player. And the starting line-up was 9 Chinese, 5 Korean, 4 Japanese, 2 Taiwanese, 2 American, 2 European. So it feels a bit unfortunate for China, I think.
Crossing my hand-made bracket above with the image given by @Allerleirauh , using my meager knowledge of Chinese characters and the nationalities, I get:
The European Go Championship took place in the last week of July, at the same place as the European Go Congress in Vatra Dornei, Romania.
I wasn’t there, so perhaps someone who was can fill in with more crunchy stories in the near future.
There were 32 participants from amongst Europe.
Podium:
1st place: Benjamin Dréan-Guénaïzia, 6d, France (probably 7d now)
2nd place: Artem Kachanovskyi, 2p, Ukraine
3rd place: Fredrik Blomback, 6d, Sweden
4th place: Nikola Mitic, 7d, Serbia
Yeah, sorry, I thought Pandanet City League established enough context to know which congress I’m talking about. I shouldn’t be that lazy, taking more time to compose the initial message can save time later.
