HORRIBLE UI (Vent here 😠)

OGS, what’s this new UI? :sob: Please try the new UI yourselves before pushing something like this
It honestly looks terrible. Maybe consider getting some user feedback and doing a bit more testing before rolling out major UI changes, because this feels like a big step backwards.

Not that I care that much, tbh, but since you think user feedback is important: I think it looks slightly better than before.

It’s not necessarily a question of whether it looks better – it’s about UI/UX and on mobile particularly this is a regression.

I’m taking a vacation until the android interface reverts back to something useable

Agree, I don’t see it as an upgrade..

Next game button needs a keyboard shortcut on desktop. And swipes on mobile version would come very handy in game navigation..

i wonder why admins are changing UI into a new one with less convenient, harder to use any tool when i need. i love the old UI so can i choose to use old or new UI by my self, instead of using new one.

Why do you suppose the admins of OGS would change the UI to a worse one?

What reasons occurred to you?

Are you able to describe what is worse for you, so that they have a chance to fix it?

A post was merged into an existing topic: Upcoming interface changes to the Game page and AI reviews

What I’m really wondering is what makes this new UI better.

I spend three hours looking for the buttons, the ghost stone is awful during analysis, and the panel on the right is way too big — not all of us are 60 years old. We have to scroll just to access all the features.

Honestly, nothing about this feels right. And I haven’t even mentioned what it looks like on a phone, or the rest of the issues

So now I’d really like to know: what exactly makes you think this is better than the previous version?

On mobile where I check games all day long this version is much harder to use. Have to click to see chat, scroll to submit move.

Yup, the topic for feedback is here: Upcoming interface changes to the Game page and AI reviews - i agree that it was maybe too sudden to push into the site, but the new UI is still “work-in-progress”, so all feedback is welcomed!

I personally like how we got rid of that horrible pop-up thingy that we had as the previous side panel, and i like how easy it is to customise almost everything now ^^
And especially i love how easy it is to use the game chat now while having minimised pm boxes at the bottom of the screen^___^

But i really dislike how i can’t customise the width of that panel, nor can i customise what b uttons are on the small bar at the bottom of that panel :<

And i’m also worried that most people don’t know how to customise stuff since it requires two clicks to find all the settings, and then theres some scrolling required to see everything that can be tinkered with.

But please consider that the well-established “old” UI was hardly a work in progress. It was a highly functional and familiar interface to all OGS players
 and widely understood.

Why suddenly switch to an unproven, untested “work in progress” that now gets in the way of what folks are used to and appreciated?

Lots of confusion and angst created, but what problems were actually being addressed?

In the business world, this approach to users would be a recipe for financial disaster. :man_shrugging:

FIFY

But we are not the business world! We don’t have teams to develop, and beta-test everything. Even so, I am not sure I agree. Not changing anything is what KGS did, and it did not really work out for them. And “a confusing, and cramped interface” was pretty much the biggest complaint against OGS forewer. Plus “not enough dan players”.

I get there are issues with the change, and I agree with many of them

I understand the unpleasantness of an unexpected change

But I am glad anoek tries new things!

It is there now, consider helping us improve the new design instead of rejecting any change. Only that way we can move forward to even better service instead of stagnating, and dying slowly.

Very difficult to play on mobile.

I have not see all I want in one screen. Now I have additional line with my nick and have to scroll screen to see some bottons or ai report and scroll back to see deck ((

This is not useful ((

Sounds like we agree on much
We agree with the valid concerns expressed over the substance of the UI changes. We agree that the changes were unexpected (i.e., not “socialized” or tested). And we agree that it’s great that @anoek is open to trying new things. :+1:

Perhaps the lesson here: Suddenly imposing untested changes on a user base that broadly rejects them is not the ideal way to try out new things.

Eh, yeah, probably

But silver linings, Everyone, leave us (idealy) somehow structured, and reasoned new feedback for improvements here: Upcoming interface changes to the Game page and AI reviews - #94 by anoek

Anoek is actively working on adressing your complaints, and publishing new versions. With a bit of luck we will soon end up with something better than before, and some old grievances fixed.

But indeed sorry for the sudden shock, and bad experience.

:folded_hands:

Anyway to change back to the old graphics of OGS? I don’t exactly like the new Chess.com kinda feel to the program
 :sob:

I feel like there should at least be a way to choose between the old or new graphics
