I regard a sandwich as bread with some topping(s), in whatever fashion. No tortilla’s, no cake or cookie, no pizza dough. Just bread.

So in your view a toast sandwich is really a toast sandwich sandwich? And if you take it apart you then have three sandwiches?

Yeah, I guess so. It’s a sandwich topped with sandwiches.

I’m afraid “soup” and “sandwich” are both paraphyletic. That’s why cereal ain’t soup, but there is no specific definition that can ever fit for all, except listing all the exceptions.

Here is a non-sandwich related question.

If you post a no-content post saying “No-Content Post”, is that a content post?

  • Yes
  • No

There are some obvious answers missing:

  • You’re stupid.
  • No. It’s a Butterbrot.

In the words of the famous Bernese troubador Mani Matter: Was isch es Sändwitsch ooni Brot? S’isch nüt als Fleisch; was isch es Sändwitsch ooni Fleisch? S’isch nüd als Brot.

When the Earl of Sandwich invented his namesake, the purpose was to hold foodstuff between slices of bread in order to have a hand free for playing cards.
Therefore, the ‘sandwich’ per se must 1. be made of bread and 2. able to be held in a hand and 3. consist of >2 slices or pieces of bread with stuff between them, that would otherwise fall apart.

A calzone does not qualify, as it is not bread, but dough that is baked with the filling already in it. Wraps and burritos are not made with bread either.

Some sandwiches are sandwiches because we call them so, like the open face.

Obvious: “no” and “No” are different strings.

Even writing “No” and then “No” again would most often result in the computer storing them as separate strings.

It seems that no one has yet linked to this other great polls thread that we had previously

I don’t think any one has yet asked a question like this before

I’ll allow, but I’m not enthusiastic about it.

This one’s inspired on a recent 3Blue1Brown video:

  • A) Option B
  • B) Option D
  • C) Option A
  • D) Option C

Behavioral Economics + Game Theory!
Choose 2/3 of the average. It should have 100 options, but that doesn’t fit.
