New experimental nav bar available

I don’t even know what a PWA is!

Is this what you mean?

I have it bookmarked, just in case, usually I don’t close the tab.

I noticed that when you click on a category, a default option is automatically selected (e.g. community->chat, learn->tutorial). Why doesn’t the same thing happen with the tools category? (maybe the joseki tool as the default option (?))

Can we make the profile link a hover menu like the other items? It’s weird that it’s two clicks to use the profile and hover for the other items. Maybe there’s a UI reason that it’s styled/placed differently, but the behavior difference doesn’t seem useful.

there is 1 click menu to get to your profile: chat players list:)
(wheel mouse button)

the Notifications button icon has a smaller font size than the Friends and Chat buttons next to it and my OCD won’t let me unsee it, but it also feels too petty to submit a big report over.

It’s not too petty - a bug report helps (a little) with the chance of someone dealing with it.

Screen shots of “what it looks like to you” also help: typically you think it’s obvious when you’re looking at it, but a screen shot avoids someone having to work out the context.

While I can’t be sure this is the reason, I think it’s likely that it’s just an optical illusion caused by the opacity. If you see the same thing as me, this is a zoomed in version:

and with a little bit of editing magic, you can see that the only difference between the two zeroes is the opacity:

but when looking at it from afar, the lower opacity might make it look like the darker zero is smaller:

Things like this are known phenomena in design, and often are taken into account, like making darker and rounder things slightly larger to account for them looking smaller compared to brighter and more “angled” things.

Dunno, you make what you want with this info (I might also be wrong and in your UI they might actually be different font sizes)

Hmm when you show it like that, and I look again, I think you’re right they are actually the same size. I guess my eyes were playing tricks on me? Sorry about that! Thanks for that side-by-side comparison. Now I can’t tell if the icons are even different shades or if the number being darker is the only difference.

I have installed OGS and Ogf as apps and I just click on the things (about 100 times per day)

But why are they different shades? Is that a bug?
Now that you mention it I see that with numbers greater than zero the chat and bell numbers are the colour of the icon but the friends one is just white/grey…

hmm, honestly with a font size this small it’s difficult to tell what the actual text color is supposed to be:

If you notice those brown and blue pixels on the borders of the balloon and bell icon (and the numbers), that’s subpixel rendering – it’s a technique to make the edges of things look smoother on the screen.

When the text itself is too small, most of the pixels are actually on the edge itself, so not many of the pixels are exclusively the color that the text is supposed to be. But I’m inclined to believe that the actual (intended) color is just white or grey for all the numbers in this image :person_shrugging:

May be, but from the other picture we can say that they’re different shades.

Is that intentional? I don’t get a possible reason for that.

Looks like “having zero messages” is an important information while “having no notifications” is less important.
Probably I’d tone down the balloon and its number too, having “no informations” as an uninteresting information for both of them.

oooh, right, “shade” means brightness, “hue” would be the color

Yeah, I have no idea. Can someone post an image of what the icons look like when the numbers aren’t 0? It might help understand the logic behind it, but OGS is really slow today and I have no friends to help me

By the way, I don’t know if it’s been pointed out already, but it’s not only the numbers, the balloon and bell icon are also slightly different shades. The bell is #484848 and the balloon is #535353.

I’m no expert in colours but what I meant was the balloon and the bell are blue and so is the number but the friends icon is green while the number is grey/white

Shouldn’t all that numbers be grey/white or all match the colour of their icon?

Not that I know much about it but

Different colour helps in distinguishing icons.
I’d do the bell yellow.

Yep. My opinion is that they all should be high contrast against background, same colour for all.
Coloured text is always a pain.

UI isn’t much about nature!
Would you really appreciate a few imperfections in the UI for the sake of wabi sabi?

Yeah they should, either one of those (I’d probably lean towards being high contrast as well, open to other opinions there though)
