And to our Russian friends, Go players or not, who have spoken out against the war, here and/or elsewhere … and to those who didn’t because they fear for themselves and their families:

I know I cannot speak for anyone but myself, i.e. this is “Tom in Germany”, the (bad) Go player and OGS member, not a mod comment, but:

THE WORLD sees you, the world hears you, and we do NOT confuse you for your government.

I’d say that’s a good as mod comment and the OGS position too

Bravo @anoek ! I’ve been reviewing some of my game communities tonight. UEFA has taken stances as has FIDE (sorta) and the USCF. Wonderful that OGS has taken this stance. Perhaps it can serve to inspire the AGA!

Not sure where you are going with other warring countries, if you’re trying to make some statement or not, but we have exactly zero site supporters from those places, so pragmatically it’s kind of a moot point. Our Ukrainian population on the site on the other hand is pretty significant, and after they’ve purged their lands of the invaders and the dust settles, I look forward to playing Go with them again.

You rock @anoek ! If ever OGS gets in a hard spot I’ll do whatever I can to help OGS. I’ve almost stopped playing the game of Go (and Chess) a few times thinking “I’ve got more important things to do with my time” - but for sure, in my opinion, meeting people like Tom/trohde and you (anoek) - even if only virtually - IS one of the most important ways for me to spend my time… and THAT is why I keep playing Go - the WeiQi community is pretty awesome. THANKS everyone, especially anoek and the admins here on OGS and the admins in the big Facebook Go-Players group.
