Since we might not all catch the announcement when it’s fixed (timezones and all that), please leave weekend pause as a buffer for a few hours (say 12h) after the issue is fixed. No need to end up with bulk timeouts.

“Disconnected” isn’t the same as “timed out”, whose turn it is doesn’t matter.
It is 1:1 spread among many people. Someone people I played became a 3d in this from a 1k or became a 16k from a 24k. Others dropped wide varieties of ranks. I lost 2-3 ranks from this. Others dropped more than ten. The person that became a 16k got a few games annulled, bringing them down to an 18k. I can only hope that this comes through on a bigger scale bringing some people’s ranks back up.

Update 1:
- The code that performs the loss by disconnection was disabled shortly after this event, meaning it should no longer happen.
- It is not going to be possible to restore lost games. I’m very sorry. Game terminations ripple throughout the system and carry far beyond a simple game state, unwinding that is a bit like trying to repair a broken glass you dropped off the counter. It is possible to fork games to resume them with your opponent, this will however not have any bearing on the outcome of the original game, so it’s only useful if you want to finish playing out a game, it won’t affect rank or tournament positions.
- I’ll figure out something to repair ranks, but it won’t be a fast patch today, I don’t want to mess that up too by trying to rush a patch.
- I’ve manually enabled “weekend” pause timers for all correspondence games for the time being, as paused games were somewhat insulated from the bug. I’ll turn it off when I’m confident things are fixed properly.
- I’m still working through things to figure out exactly what happened.

that is me haze with a Z is talking about. i moved up a lot becuase i was playing xhu98, who is a 7or8d in 2 games. it showed me that i won, i was surprised.
Question: can we report them to be annulled? Does it make any difference?

true, future tournament rankings will be messed up because the ranks are false.
Is this related to my being unable to submit a move on game/22860637? I hit submit, it goes into submitting, then nada. I come back later and the move hasn’t been made.
I would suggest a sitewide Robin round tournament for all OGS accounts to get all our ranks sorted out, but I think I would be stoned to death.

I am doing that with all of my won games right now. I am just assuming I had lost the games and I would rather my rank be messed up then my opponent’s. If there was already a rank update batch, oh well, my rank will change eventually. Worth a try though.
I am so up for that. I could play He who walks in Shadows and add to my loss total against him:) Even if that false win can’t be taken away.
Edit: I have never called a mod multiple times or reported multiple people at the same time before. I now have a warning icon next to a 4, although I am still adding to that total.

I’ll wait for a reply, maybe we will be asked to do it tomorrow or in batches, or sort out a different annulment system for this.
I have too many outstanding reports. Who knew you couldn’t have six at once. Time to screenshot so I remember what games I reported and what games I didn’t yet. I guess a game against a 25k who moved down before this is less important than a 16k that moved down from a 6k from this.

I am sure you already though about that, but I believe the best solution is a complete server reset of one or two days if you have such backup.
If nothing can be done for the games, to fix the ranks I suggest to automatically annul all games finished by disconnection this day.
Anyway, thank you @anoek for your hardwork making this site exist.

Not necessarily, I don’t think pride is the deciding factor here… Strong players will rise back up quickly anyway. Also, higher kyu players can probably still participate in tournaments, but someone who lost their 25k may be left out. Also, most 25k probably are new players on OGS and it would be a tad disheartening to tell them they matter less.

Everyone will be able to repair their own ranks by simply playing more go. It’s nearly impossible to stay at a false rank for long in this game.

Well it didn’t change there rank at all compared to another changed by a lot. It says that a mod is dealing with the 5 I put out there, so hopefully it works and I can annul the other games.

Turns out only one of my games could be annulled. One!!!
In the mod’s impersonal message to me he said
I have annulled all of your affected games that could have been annulled (it is possible some could not have been)
How is that one game in the middle? That doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. This rank system is confusing. I don’t know if that is just because I only reported 5 though. l asked him so we will see.

Whew lad.
The tournament games are the big loss here. Everything else is temporary and can be regained, but to screw up correspondence tournaments - some of which take literal years to decide - is a huge loss to OGS.

It’s strange. I have reported about 16 games ended by disconnection and in all I loose despite of which move was next. It looks like server chooses me as disconnector.
