Re: Correspondence games lost by disconnection

In the best case, we can annull 15 games. Most times it’s less.

I got one annulled. The game seemed random. It was the last game I won. I lost a bunch of games after that couldn’t get annulled and won a bunch before it. The only reason I have heard about why a game can’t be annulled is due to rank update batches, but this doesn’t explain why the one game that could be annulled is in the middle of my disconnected games.

Just leaving this here in hope it has some debugging value. When I logged in, I indeed saw a “You’re not playing any games” message where the game list normally is. However, the number indicator in the top righthand corner showing how many games I have where it is my turn to play showed “12”. I clicked that indicator, played my turns, and now these games are back in my ongoing games list. I do not seem to have had any change in my rank.

So I guess we should go on and report games to be annulled.

My guess is, it will be easier to get more games annulled if some players with few games report theirs, so the players with more games have less to report.

I think they mean there will be mass annul done by server.

No. It doesn’t work like that.

Do you actually have 12 moves currently? Mine is saying that there, but I actually have moves in way more, in about 60 games

This sounds like a rollback, I had 3 games where it was my turn right about when the Event happened.
Now indicator says 3 (and circles only those 3), but my turn is in more games.

Should I report my game to be annulled or not? A clear answer on that would be appreciated.

It is not rolled back for me; at one point it did show that I had 68 moves after the event. Also I doubt that at 4am my time or whenever it actually happened, that I only had 11 or 12 moves. That may be true for you, but I don’t think it is for me.

I hope there will be a rollback. Until then, if you have more than one affected game, it’s easier for us if you report just one and ask us to check your profile. We’ll annul everything that the system allows us to, except maybe when you had less than 5% chance to win, in which case it may be more unjust to deprive your opponent of the benefit of their good play.

European timezones rule, yeah :sunglasses:

Nope, that’s largely on me, I answered to you before going through all of my todo tabs, sorry there is a lot. I have annulled a bunch more. But, they do not need to be strictly in order, as it also depends on your opponent’s “status” whether the game can be annulled. Sorry for causing even more confusion

Update 2:

  • The issue has been found, we had a data inconsistency related to the time control system that I failed to handle correctly. The result is the disconnection code saw these games and counted them as being live games instead of correspondence games. I believe I have a fix, but I’ll be validating that for a bit still before I release so I don’t break anything else up by accident with rushed fixes.
  • The related issue that caused players to not be able to pause or place moves in some games should be fixed, please message me if you are still having problems.

Hi,

a different issue but perhaps related to the same root cause. I have a correspondence gave that is stuck at weekend pause. I.e. it was paused for weekend but did not get unpaused back.

That’s part of the plan to protect further problems from happening.

Not sure about the actual number, it was probably more in the ~20 range. Still, some games “survived”, and this is what I intended to convey to the developers.

Thank you for clarifying this

My rank is acting weird. Is that related to this? I am a 19k, but after reloading the page, my profile and my sideview say I am a 17k. I am the 19k after getting games annulled and I am not sure if this is connected at all, although I am assuming it is. Is it related to not all moves counting in the number on the top? 1 move instead of 40-50.

To be honest, it shouldn’t be that big of a problem, since assume a player (like Starline) lost, say 10 ranks. Well, he (or she) would probably recover those ranks soon, because if I was a 9d+ in real life and I just started playing on OGS, I would rocket up the ranks!
