I find it impossible to read in this variant, because unless there’s a move that seems like a must it’s kind of random what the opponent will play 
Even then they’re might be meta ideas to pick the unexpected move to get or avoid a collision depending on what you expect the other player to play.
Edit: I’m not saying that as a bad thing, just that it’s tough to plan ahead at least without cooperation, which of course lets the opponent potentially know your ideas also.
