There should be option to automatically cancel (quick match finder) or (custom game that you created) if you accept custom game (that someone else created).
So you may try to find game to accept instead of waiting with tetris.
A visualisation of the matching process.
It could be anonymised or just show a pool of ranks that are getting paired etc. I just imagine there could be a nice visualisation.
(Maybe in practice it’s just some queue or whichever but still. In practice I imagine something like that being too slow to actually do also)

Actually what about not just an ordinary Tsumego but a crowd sourced evaluation/creation of Tsumego
Imagining one wanted to start a new puzzles feature which had elo ratings for the puzzles but initialising a bunch of puzzles with ratings and getting them to a real rating takes time and effort of probably a lot of people. Why not do it while you wait
Either try the puzzle to improve its rating, add a solution or incorrect line, create a puzzle (maybe even just adding a stone to an existing puzzle), vote to remove a terrible puzzle etc.
There could be many interesting things. Pro game of the day. Historic game of the day. Tsumego of the day. News (tournaments) pic of the day. Horoscope…
The problem I see is to have at least one people on charge, as too few of this can be automated and some human behind may give more interest.
