Toggle to enable/disable stone shadows

42 are not 50 but already looks more like warbles as the usual stones we have. 36-38 are the common size for quality stones, like shell for tournaments or glass. Rarely you ll see thicker ones.

On a side note 50 in shell are luxury mostly. They are much much more expensive because you need giant clams. 28 can be quite cheap in contrast.

Oh I absolutely mean size 42…!

I agree with you here - 36 would be a much more standard (and still “premium”) size. My comment was mostly with all the comparisons to spheres, when size 42 is clearly not that round.

With glass we put away the high prices ( imagine that a thousand euro stone (no s) is not for everyone…) so if people like it we could expect everyone with thicker stones but that’s not the case. People still prefer 32-36

I was in a rather silly mood when I made my dramatic posts here last night (although I do hope my example pictures were constructive). I would like to apologize to blindgorgon. The new shadows subjectively do imply stones that are more globular than flat to me (and, more importantly, just feel to me like they clutter up the board), but I’m very happy to hear that soon, this will be one of many options for everyone to pick their favourite from.

Being silly and critical is a lot like road rage isn’t it - tons easier when you have no clue who’s on the other end.

As soon as you recognise “that slow fool driving in the fast lane” as your Mom or friend from the Golf Club you approach it differently

(me? road rage? never! :squinting_face_with_tongue: )

I appreciate it, friend! I do try not to take it too personally, but I also respect very much those who in earnest want to collaborate. :folded_hands:t2:

Pros don’t typically play with size 42s, 36s are normal in Japan, and in Korea not even that, and in China single convex are common.

So this is not play like a pro, this is play like a rich Japanese businessmen or western amateur who has discovered Kuroki’s online shop and wants to show off how much money they’ve got to waste on stones that are crazy expensive. More expensive does not mean better.

Yeah, but you get it here for free!

That’s what Groin said, right?

You ommitted (and perhaps overlooked entirely) the smiley, when quoting my words.

I found your studies on the shape of a go stone quite interesting anyway.
Btw did you ever be interested in studying the single convex used in China? A Yunzi stones company created a new single convex shape. A bit more massive getting thicker near the edge. I owned a set and these in fact were one of my favorites (sadly I left all my stones there so I can’t provide more info).

Nice. Does Default = Mid?

Depends on the theme, but also, yes.

Great work Devs!

A dev by definition is a person with unlimited abilities. It is a person who shapes the world. A person who is aware of everything. A person who is not bound by any laws, including the laws of physics. A person for whom everything is easy. (reference)

Welp. I like the new options… but my goal of making the platform feel premium fell on its face. If we can’t move the needle on what the default is then 90% of players still just leave it, and still get the flat, old style.

Ah well. 100 steps forward, 99 back I guess.

Yeah, I wonder why the default was set to the old :face_with_monocle:

In actuality, perhaps the default should be stone-choice-dependent. Choose a premium stone, get a premium shadow. Choose a cartoon stone, get a cartoon shadow.

@anoek?

mm, the default is currently “let the stone theme pick”, though I think they’re all set to “mid” (which is not the old) except for the Anime stone.

Perhaps the mid doesn’t go far enough? Also, I’m certainly open to updating the stone-picked to the higher one for the shell/slate/glass stones, if we want, and/or modifying the mid to be a little bigger if we feel it’s too close to the old.
