Update of Game History Table

I find the lower opacity a bit too extreme, it’s quite hard to read these games… Makes mod work more difficult as well, as I have to squint now to find the game with the right opponent.

If you know their name you can use the search bar at the top of history to show only games against that user

I’ll be adjusting the css from my side for the time being

Of course we can tweak that opacity - what’s a good value?

We could also

  • Have a checkbox to turn it on or off
  • Make it so that the Opponent’s name is no greyed, only the other things

?

Tbh i kinda liked having more yellow and more sparkle in my profile, but the new game history looks very neat ^^

One request, could the table be made wider? Currently the result of the game is getting cut, which looks really clumsy, espesially since there is so muc unused space next to the table

I’d say 0.5 or 0.6 looks best

It’s funny - I started with 0.5 and thought that was not enough, so went to 0.3.

I can see that in bright mode, the annulled ones are not quite dark enough to read easily.

In dark mode 0.3 seems perfect to me.

Solution: use dark mode. Your eyes will thank you

Switching to Dark mode is still your best bet overall, but this is a nice backup at least

I haven’t spent much time in the forums recently other than a few quick glimpses so I knew that was some sort of discussion going on about this stuff but I have to admit that when I first saw this it wasn’t intuitively clear what the B & W circles meant. They don’t look like stones for one thing. It took me a moment or two to figure out what it meant - which is not a good sign. It probably meant stone colour but whose? If only my opponent is listed is it theirs or mine. OK, without looking at the games I’m pretty sure I was B in that game against him and I’m pretty sure I was B against her so it must be my colour. I shouldn’t have to work out what this means like that.

It is even worse if I’m looking at someone else’s profile. Just looking at 3902’s profile for example - they always play as white. So there is just a column of white circles there. If I was a new user, or someone exploring the site and thinking of signing up I would have no idea what that column represented. Stone colour? Games that haven’t been finished yet? Ranked/unranked? Private/public? Something else?

Personally I would also put the game symbol (clock, turtle, bolt) on the left next to the cups. Short fields with graphic entries should be put together rather than intermixed with long text fields. At the moment it almost looks like two parallel columns, like in a print newspaper.

And the annulled games are a bit too light to read easily, and why is there a grey dot there? Are there three colours? Oh, wait a moment that’s probably a black dot that’s been greyed out. Again this isn’t immediately clear. I shouldn’t have to think about this to understand what they mean, even the first time I see it.

Glad i am not alone in thinking the annulled games are too light. My old eyes can barely read them at all. A button to turn off the gray effect would be best, I think.

Not everything can be perfectly intuitive to everyone, but the fact that you could figure it out without asking for help actually is a good sign.

Fix has already been proposed, just not implemented yet

Can the people commenting on the annulled games being too light confirm if they are using light or dark theme?

Wah - I’ve found out what critical information we lost in removing the current player from each row …

… we lost what rank the person was when they played the game

I think this is a pretty bad loss - any ideas?

Just noticed the update and had to log in the forum to say it: looks much better, great work!

I would personally regard this as pretty niche information, and it is still only one click away by opening the desired game if it is needed.

I think the vast majority of the time when a person is looking at a user’s game history, this is not information they need, especially for recent history.

I do, but I also don’t put my screen too brightly, for double eye-saving. But that makes pretty dark grey on darker grey. Might just be my monitor, I also have a lot of difficulty watching dark movies and such.

So, to confirm, I was already talking about dark mode.

Interestingly enough, I find it more readable in bright mode :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes - thanks for the clarity: I wanted to make sure I was solving the correct problem.

FWIW, with standard brightness settings, I think the current values are perfect on PC and mobile :stuck_out_tongue:
