It is no longer puzzling me.
I had the two randomisation options on and put them off (see screenshot).
(In just two clicks all of my puzzles in all my collections are not randomised anymore).
hum
Yes looks like I am wrong, usual tesuji not working here.
Meaning black alive which seems correct from the puzzle question.
( Important is to not play the Q18 P18 exchange, which leads to ko, same has to be checked )
No you were right, S19 R19 T16 kills:
Black can’t T15 next because then S17 is double atari.
Edit: Never mind me, I can’t count liberties
I can’t count liberties
Well, if a 6d with a YouTube channel about Go can’t count liberties, I feel very strong now.
So, looks like after T18 black is alive.
Q18 P18 exchange
I wouldn’t play P18: after Q18, R18 kills.
I’m 3d, OGS ranks are funky
But yes, black is indeed alive after T18
Black to move, who will win this capturing race?
Thank you @LinuxGooo for putting this puzzle online!

Ok same problem, only one branch is validated. Because it’s an easy problem aimed at DDK it’s a bit sad to not consider different ways for white to answer. And get “wrong answer” as result when nothing is wrong at all.
For ex B1 A3 A5. Wrong answer. No, not at all. Perfectly correct answer.
Don’t let me seen as a pedantic tester. I can just imagine the deception for someone who has to check again a correct reading and after pain to finally find what is the correct answer according to the puzzle and… after all the mess to be sure that its own reading was not wrong at all.
Besides, the one eye against no eye is a bit too much tip in my own taste, I would prefer to keep it as a discovery after the problem solved.
Same difficulty in the second problem, variations for correct answer raising from black answer at A16 instead of C16 would be interesting to include. Or white can play the forcing exchange A4-A2 before B16.
First
I also was speculating about white A3 after black B1, but for white it’s a waste of time since black A5 doesn’t allow any other move for white.
Playing A5 first, white could at least try to make a seki.
But eventually we know that also A5 doesn’t work, so they are both “wrong moves”.
For a stronger player the only answer to this puzzle is black B1. That’s it. Nothing more, since white can’t recover in any way.
For a weaker player it could be useful to have both variations available.
Second
A4-A2?
Typo?
Ah yes that was on the puzzle I guess sorry.

I already enjoyed some puzzles from “Cho Chikun’s Encyclopedia of Life and Death” but beware: solutions are not included in the original book. So I suppose they were reconstructed by someone else.
In this case I expect @Groin to mention one alternative that is marked as “incorrect” but is as useless as the other one!

White B17 instead of D19
As in a previous puzzle, once black gets the right spot, there’s nothing white can do to kill.
but beware: solutions are not included in the original book. So I suppose they were reconstructed by someone else.
Doesn’t have to be someone else. Could be that so many players were not able to solve the puzzles and that the publisher decided (no doubt led by economical motives) to add the solutions later. Just a speculation.
I don’t know.
It was more than two years ago:
Hi there! I’m trying some Cho Chikun’s tsumego. This one I really can’t understand. It says: “Black to kill” (I turned off all options, so it’s top left corner and black to move I couldn’t find an answer, so I tried to click everywhere and found a sequence that says “Correct”. But still I can’t understand why white should be dead… it looks like seki to me. I would not spoiler this puzzle, but don’t know how to discuss the solutiion otherwise. Any thought?
Tell me more about that book. In English? Digital or paper? Editor?
In a real game there are also no captions that say White kills black.
Just the last few days I have been thinking about this. Maybe tsumego’s should be without captions.
About that specific puzzle: feel free to post it here and start a discussion.
I found the encyclopedia here on OGS as a puzzle collection.
According to Sensei’s library, it’s a software for DOS:
Here you can find a PDF collection.
Tsumego Collections
From PDF’s preface:
“The problems come without solutions for two reasons: first, one can learn more by reading out all the paths and solving the problems oneself; second, the solutions are copyrighted.”
So probably the original version has solutions too.
Okay, while checking puzzles yesterdayI found these beauties.
And since I know you are art lovers, I share them with you.
Don’t forget to solve them.

Here are some other interesting tsumego threads:
Alright let’s get right to business: I suggest that instead of fuzzy suggested rankings, we do something useful with the tsumego and use the Elo system to properly judge how hard it’s going to be for someone with a certain rating. Assign an Elo score to every problem, treat it as a player. If someone fails to solve it, it gains Elo just like a player would; if it’s solved, it loses points. Whether it’s better to initialize a player’s “tsumego elo” to the overall/overall elo or otherwise, I do…
Tsumego problems are an important part of Go Game. Practising Tsumegos is good for the reading skill, for your understanding of fights and of course, life and death of your groups. I propose then to work on tsumegos here, on OGS, together in sessions (weekly would be awesome). Contrary to the category i chose, i feel it more like a group working on tsumego then a teacher and his fellow students. It would be like a studying group focused on tsumego practising. I spoke with some players yesterda…
Tsumego are such an important part of go. But we don’t have a tsumego thread. That’s not right! The So-called Strength in Go is Actually the Strength of Your Calculation Skill [P2210242] 2. Ehy there guys! As I read in many teaching or general posts,it seems that a very good way to develop reading ability as well as general reasoning is to do a lot of tsumego problems. That’s why I’m here asking you an advice about what book I should have. I’d like to focus on Tsumego books that start from my level (about 12kyu) or a little easier, to lead me to an improvement to higher kyu. It would be ideal to have many problems with explained solution, when needed. Thanks a lot!! PS as I…
Are the 10 stones on the left dead, alive or a seki?
Spoiler
I don’t understand B15.
The first move is sente because black responds with B15.
But
if the reward is a ko for life to save ten stones, probably it would be better to lose few points on the side and secure the big group.
Is white A13 so dangerous?
B15 avoid that w get a second eye. So b intention is bigger as just securing his group by avoiding the ko.
